Pro tools does seem like its quite fragile regarding the environment it runs in, and avid seems unable to update it at the speed the marketplace demands. It is a concern to me as well.

I did the uninstall of ie8 and it just reverted to ie7 whereby I was able to run windows update.

I do wish avid would get this taken care of, though. Its just silly to have a fatal interaction...
