You'll need to also solo any aux tracks that you are using as a group channel.

If this is the issue, press CTRL + Click 'S' to solo safe the aux track, so that solo'ing any individual tracks...

Not sure if the standard plugins have a sideshain funtion like with PT8, but if you have any 3rd party plugins that support sidechain, you should be all set.

Yes, you can sidechain compression in Pro Tools 8. You just key in the input from whatever you want driving it. :)
