For my last tests, I used the internal iMac Speakers. It also happens with an Apogee Duet and with an Apollo Twin.
Buffer Size is currently 1024 Samples.

I think an important or at least supicious point is that those CPU spikes followed by those -9173 errors are happening out of nowhere, not while heavy system usage. CPU can be somewhere around 1-2%...

I appreciate the effort, everyone.
I deactivated all plugins in that particular session. 4 active audio tracks, all inserts as well as any plugins on auxes are deactivated. so, no abbey roads...
