Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

True. And they've provided ample time for developers to transition to 64-bit. People demand more/faster from Apple, so they must at some point unattach themselves from 32-bit if they're to please...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

It was a different time, and tricking the computer was part of the gig. SCSI IDs, extension conflicts, versions of QT compatible with necessary application A but not necessary application B, hardware...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

I remember temporarily moving boot drives from the new computer into an older machine in order to install the previous iteration of the OS, then the drive was placed back into the new machine. That...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

It's good that we have an ex-Apple support person to verify this, but it's not always been the case. I do remember a couple of instances where the previous OS didn't easily go onto a newly-released...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Then I'm sure that's a fair call about this particular machine.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Most yes, but some no. There were new releases which we'd wiped and rolled back one iteration for the sake of PT.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Yeah, the only hurdle I forsee (without looking into it further) is the absence of 32-bit support in Catalina, which is certainly more extreme than most OS updates, but that alone doesn't suggest...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

That has never been true for the 5 or 6 times we wiped the system drive of a new computer and rolled back to the previous OS. There were no side effects whatsoever and many people do this without...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Why couldn't you wipe the drive and install Mojave? We've done that with new computers many times (not Mojave) when the pre-installed OS wasn't yet compatible with PT.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

Are the newest MBPs hardware-limited to Catalina? Typically, even a new laptop can be wiped on Day One so that an older OS can be installed. Maybe the new MBPs won't allow it. That would put PT...

Re: Why does Eucon control launch with PT ?

I see. The OP thought it was opening and closing with PT. Ironically, I would actually prefer that it worked that way.

Re: Why does Eucon control launch with PT ?

I don't understand how Eucon is loading with ProTools though? I actually do use the app with a control surface, but it loads automatically upon computer start because it's a login item. I've never...

Re: PT Crashes every time I reduce playback buffer

The thing which provokes a crash more than anything else, at least for me, is changing the buffer size. When sessions are small it's rarely an issue, but if there are a few VIs and other CPU eaters,...

Re: Pro Tools 2019.10 Discussion

That's great news. Of course some ADC issues are due to plugins not reporting proper delays, but that's on them to repair.

Re: Video Engine Error on Playback

Sorry to hear that. Most of the studios in my company have been plagued by that dialogue box in recent years but it's been relatively solid this year, and I've not seen such a video crash in 2019.10....

Re: 2019.10 dropped

So the S6 was super buggy at first? I don't know much about its history.

Re: 2019.10 dropped

If ProTools was completely rewritten into an app which merely erased your hard drive when opened, you'd still suggest it was a great bit of software from Avid. ;)

Jokes aside, the list isn't long,...

Re: PT 2019.10 inbound

The video engine and breakpoint smoothing are the only standouts, and let's pray that the engine has actually been fixed this time (it has been worked on for years and still fails for many). The...

Re: PT 2019.10 inbound

That's a rigid and concrete argument, Dean. Some people lack the ability to recognize that their situation is only their situation and that everyone else has a different model and investment....

Re: PT 2019.10 inbound

That's nothing more than making excuses for Avid's ineptitude, and I realize that that's the motive the second someone suggests 'if you don't like it, leave,' as though sticking around and trying to...

Re: PT 2019.10 inbound

Everyone thinks otherwise. Yes, even post engineers (we have quite a few) find this update to be blah.

No one should apologize for stirring up controversy about this. It's borderline fraud, and...

Re: PT 2019.10 inbound

It would be a very simple thing for them to miss the October release and change the name to 2019.11. Or 2019.12. Or 2020.8. We've been through this many times.

Re: System plays at 96k, doesn't at 48k or 44.1

But playback continues through those silent regions? It never stops?

Re: System plays at 96k, doesn't at 48k or 44.1

Glad it worked out. The playback engine your client used shouldn't have forced itself onto your rig, but who knows. Strange things happen. And I suspect that PT was seeing your built-in sample rate...
