I don't think the mbox series are hot swappable, e.g, you have to have it plugged in before you turn the computer on, and off before you take it out.

Have you tried grouping the tracks you want to change playlists on? Highlight all the tracks you want to change, command and G to set up the group, change from there.

The Command 8 is a controller for ProTools only, it has no interface built in, so you would still require your 002, or other interface to use it even with your LE system.
