Re: The end of perpetual licenses

I can't find anything indicating that the same will hold true for someone buying a new HDX system, although I can't imagine they wouldn't do the same thing.

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

The way I read the stuff from Avid's website, unless you already have or can get a perpetual license before they go away, you will in fact need an annual subscription to the software to use Carbon...

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

Isn't that precisely what they're doing? Unless you pony up a grand a year, your HDX will be useless if you don't already have a perpetual license. And anyone who wants to get into an HDX system who...

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

Nope, I'm even more ancient than that. :-) I'm still using PT 7.4 on a G5 Mac, HD-2, 192 IO (although I use external A-D converters) and a D-Command 24 channel. Knock on wood, the system has been...

Re: The end of perpetual licenses

So, if I'm reading things correctly, only the $999/year subscription tier is compatible with HDX hardware? So if you have an HDX system, you have to get the most expensive subscription even if you...

Re: VCA Fader - no volume control

At least in 7.4, group faders do nothing unless you have automation in read mode. You might want to try that.

Re: Poll: How many still using PPC?

Whoops, you're right. Yes, I know I could go to 10.5 and 8.0 but I heard a lot of stories about poorer performance, bugs, etc. Even if a lot of that has been ironed out, 8.0.3 isn't an option (and...

Re: Poll: How many still using PPC?

I decided to freeze at 10.4.9 on my 2.0GHZ Dual PPC, running 7.4.2, about two years ago. The system (HD2) works very well, and I simply can't see going through all the pain and cost of either doing...

Re: PPC-Snow Leopard -PT 8-Futur

Yep, you're correct--VI's aren't a huge part of my life. Being a Luddite, most of my synth stuff is done the old fashioned way, with hardware. :-)
So you're right, I can be more patient, as the...

Re: PPC-Snow Leopard -PT 8-Futur

OK, still over $5k, $2100 of which is for something that in the not too distant future will be a boat anchor. I'm still hoping Digi will come out with new cards in the next year or so that would...

Re: PPC-Snow Leopard -PT 8-Futur

That's what I am doing. I am chugging along on an old G5 2.0 Dual with an HD2. I have no desire to buy a new Mac and render my current HD cards useless (unless I buy an expensive expansion...

Re: Magma PE6R4 discontinued?

Is it quiet enough to record in the same room with it? I keep my Mac in an Isobox along with a 192, but there's no room for the expansion chassis in there.

Re: magma 4slot chassis

Thanks, that's helpful. Unfortunately, I would be using some VI's (specifically BFD), and would need to be able to record and playback BFD while having other tracks running. It's not clear to me...

Re: magma 4slot chassis

This is all very confusing. Here is something from another thread on the two slot chassis:

Re: new Mac 8 Core, old cards don't fit
I spoke with someone at Magma today about the two-slot chassis....

Re: Ageing G5 2Ghz Powermac - Leopard 10.5.5

The thing is, not only is the upgrade expensive, but it's not even a very good option, at least for me. I have an HD2 system and a UAD-1 card. If I upgrade, the UAD-1 is useless in a new machine,...

Re: new Mac 8 Core, old cards don't fit

It seems sensible--we know that the same cards (PCI, PCIe, Smart Card, etc.) are used inside the host computer with each chassis regardless of the number of slots, so why wouldn't latency be the...

Re: Ageing G5 2Ghz Powermac - Leopard 10.5.5

Ditto. My only problem is that I keep hearing that new Macs with the new Intel chips will be coming "soon", so I am keeping my powder dry until that happens...

I've managed to get almost six...

Re: new Mac 8 Core, old cards don't fit

I am in this boat, too (looking to upgrade, that is, not confused about PCI vs. PCIe). Does anyone have one of the four slot Magmas working:

Re: Moving the Icon concole

I recently moved mine across country, and definitely took it apart, put it back in its original boxes, then reassembled at the new location. Doesn't take that long to remove the brackets or put them...

Re: Ethernet Error

Don't know if this will help you, but I had this error recently, and trashing preferences and repairing permissions fixed it. It's quick, painless and worth a try...

Re: Help! D-Command not recognized

Trashing preferences took care of it! (And/or repairing permissions). Once I did that and restarted, PT found the D-Command and all was well.

Thanks again, Chris. :-)

Re: Help! D-Command not recognized

Chris, thanks again for your suggestions. I will try running the utility tests tonight, except for the external ones--I will look in the dreaded miscellaneous cable box to see if somehow I have that...

Re: Help! D-Command not recognized

Chris:

Thanks for the quick reply. It's a first generation G5, so there's only the one ethernet port. I'm sure the port is OK, it's hooked up to a router (same one i used before I moved), along...
