A little blurry but I believe your grid is showing minutes and seconds. Top "ruler" left edge, popup to select Bars and Beats.

I think zoom is always "to the playhead". When you select something while stopped you have moved the playhead to that location. I'm not sure there is a way to disconnect that.

I'd suggest bypassing the hub and using an OEM Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor to plug your HD box directly into one of your MBPro ports. See if that allows your hardware and software...

Similar setup here, slightly newer MBPro.

I think losing the connection to your interface while PT is running will at least crash PT and possibly your entire machine. (Gotta keep the cat away...
