Re: Need some Vocal Tips

There are many, many tricks for getting a fat vocal. . .and it all starts with having a great sounding voice and a great performance, through a great mic, into a great mic-pre. If you've got all...

Re: mic pre amps

I agree with alschnier about API mic pres. . .In fact, you could buy them for about $600 a channel from mercenary audio. The problem is that you've got to have a power supply and the lunch box to...

Re: help me choose protools rig

I was under the impression that you had to run the TDM (MIX) and/or HD systems in a desktop because of the PCI Card. . .If Magma works so that you don't have to use a desktop, the great!

I'd...

Re: Question to Dangerous summing box owners?

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but I'm interested in the Dangerous 2 Bus. Please post your results. I think it does more to hear from someone in the real world who is looking to spend his...

Re: help with a mic pre

I agree with the above posters. I use a Great River mic pre with my Mix Plus system. I think it sounds incredible, and the price is reasonable, considering what you're getting.

Good luck!

Re: mic pre amps

It depends on how much you're willing to spend. For a budget minded guy, the FMR RNP (Really Nice Pre-amp) might fit the bill. You get two channels of pretty decent pre-amp for about $500.00. If...

Re: Any Recomendations on Plug-ins for Vocals?

I second Steve on the Waves Renaissance Maxx Bundle. I use it for the stuff I'm doing at home and get a great sound. . .really full and natural. I basically use the R Vox, R De-Esser and R...

Re: Avalon U5

Check out the FMR RNP and RNC. The RNP (Really Nice Pre-Amp) is a great sounding mic pre that also can be used to run direct. You get two channels of fairly high quality mic pre for about $500. ...

Re: miking guitar amps

I don't think it's important to mic amps in a closet. . .at least, I don't. But then again, I'm not a professional engineer. I'm a hobbyist and record amps all the time with my Mix Plus system. I...

Re: Best Mics and Mic pres for bass/baritone male

I've also heard great things about the Soundelux mics. I've just purchased a Great River mic pre and it works pretty well. The store I purchased from suggested I try a Soundelux U195. It's a large...

Re: Getting Started - TDM Need suggestions

What you need depends upon what kind of music you're going to try to record and whether or not you're planning on recording yourself or as a professional. I'm using my Mix Plus system to record my...

Re: Best TDM reverb?

I had no idea Lexiverb was that bad. I would have though that it was one of the best, considering it uses up a full DSP chip for each instance of the reverb. If you could, please tell me more about...

Re: pro tools 24 mix

I'm running a Mix Core Card, Mix Farm Card and 888/24 I/O into a new G4. To get started, you'll need the Mix Core and an I/O. I would advise getting the 888/24, because it's 24 bits. If you cruise...

Thanks for all the great replies. In answer to some of the questions, I don't know if I need TDM. I just want it. I'm not a studio owner. I'm an attorney by day whose passion is making music. ...
