The option key trick is for laptops and smaller wireless keyboards. With option held down, arrow keys become home, end, pg up, pg dn

Any DAW can be acting paranoid, if you have installed even one incompatible (badly behaving) plugin. No matter if you use it, all you need is having that plugin loaded into memory.

In the case of OP, divider was when PT8 was DigiDesign and PT9 was Avid. Currently, to my knowledge, you can only upgrade Avid licenses, so DigiDesign era license is worthless.

Yes.

PT10 was a bridge between the old and the new. It could run RTAS, TDM, and the 32-bit versions of AAX plugins (because PT software was 32-bit at that time). All of that changed in PT11.0.0...

PT does what it need sto do. It is not competing with MIDI sequencers, because it is audio workstation. But with that said, it is capable in MIDI work also.

Sorry about the typo. Meant channels per instrument. I actually used those hardware MIDI instruments in 1980's, and yes they were limited to 16 channels, of which channel 10 was drum kit channel.

Actually MIDI 1.0 spec has limitation of 16 instruments per instrument, and maximum of 16 devices on thru port. So PT already exceeds that spec (and pardon me by stating PT sticks to the standards)....

Because the MIDI 1.0 spec from 1980's actually says a single MIDI device can talk to 16 channels. PT can talk to 64 MIDI devices, thus 1024 total.

MIDI 2.0 should put this to unlimited category.

And remember this if you get the pops and clicks back. First thing you should suspect is a faulty loop sync cable. Luckily those are so inexpensive you should always have spares at hand.

Memory-wise, the greatest Mx Mac out there currently offers 192GB and costs an arm and a leg. Rumors are, the upcoming M4 Mac Pro would offer 512GB, but that aure won't be cheap.
