Re: Waves V10 vs V9

Everyone’s situation is different, but I personally feel like I have gotten a lot of mileage out of my v9 waves stuff... most of it was purchased 6-7 or more years ago and I have never had to wup...

Re: Echo Farm is back!!

Correct, you need to buy the full version to be able to keep your tdm license. I bought the amp farm 4 full version back in December, I forget the price but it was on sale and seemed like a good...

Re: IMac Pro or UA Apollo 8

I went through a similar dilemma a few months ago, I upgraded from a 2009 i7 iMac with 16gb ram. The iMac i9 has loud fans compared to the other choices, so you can narrow it down between iMac Pro...

Re: Mac OS9 data CDs not readable in OSX?

I also still have an old G4 with OS9 and OS X 10.3.9 that I can test with as well. Haven’t fired it up for a few years, but last time I used it, worked great. Let me know what you find.

Re: Mac OS9 data CDs not readable in OSX?

Iirc, there was a warning about old cd Roms not working around 10.10.x from chicken systems, saying you need to convert all of your old libraries before upgrading. I have a lot of old cd-r backups...

Re: Magma Expansion Chassis P7R4, PCIHIF68 Host compatible with Protools Mix, G4, OS9

Samplecell on a card wasn’t much of a cpu strain, if any. I highly recommend the samplecell card with the tdm module for use with a mix system. Soft samplecell was a cpu and memory hog for those...

Re: Magma Expansion Chassis P7R4, PCIHIF68 Host compatible with Protools Mix, G4, OS9

Until the current 8-slot Mac Pro was released, I believe the old 9600s had the highest number of expansion slots of any Mac. They were rare 15-20 years ago, probably nearly impossible to find now.

Re: Is the Coronavirus pandemic affecting your business?

The live performance/large gatherings portion of the music business is obviously very affected by this.

However, most of us do either music or post and are capable of working from home. In fact,...

Re: Is the Coronavirus pandemic affecting your business?

For the last few years, all of my studio work has been remote. I have actually been offered more work than my normal workload, because people are hoping I will stay home or be forced to stay home...

Re: Magma Expansion Chassis P7R4, PCIHIF68 Host compatible with Protools Mix, G4, OS9

If your G4 has a FireWire 800 port, it will not natively boot in OS9. The “classic mode” environment that ran within OSX will not work for pro tools... you need to have a G4 that Is capable of...

Re: Magma Expansion Chassis P7R4, PCIHIF68 Host compatible with Protools Mix, G4, OS9

All PCI chassis that I have used with G4’s were always plug and play. They were, however, very finicky about host card and chassis motherboard version. It’s been at least 10 years since I have set...

Re: Ongoing woes with the Virus Indigo plugin

Before buying a tdm card, spend some time reading the manuals so you know what you need. You won’t be able to use it in conjunction with your mbox, tdm systems are more involved to set up. There are...

Re: Health Insurance Blues:How do small business owners & Musicians manage this?

Health insurance in the US is a complicated problem that is different for everyone’s unique situation. From my experience, if you can get on a government plan and are poor, the insurance is very good...

Re: Trying to get rid of some plugins

I hear you, I haven’t tried to resell plugins for a long time. The prices have gotten so low, there are many cases where it’s cheaper to simply buy a plugin again when it goes on sale instead of...

Re: Noisy PCI expansion chassis - upgrade with quiet fans?

The fans I was using were universal silent Computer fans from Newegg or some place like that. This thread was 12 years ago so I don’t know what the best fans are today, but you should be able to...

I am not a lawyer, and this should not be considered legal advice... but as I understand it the idea of assigning your IP to the publishing company vs. yourself is to protect you personally from...

Re: Is Publishing Admin. worth it?

Ari Herstand seems to be the leading expert (or perhaps the only one I have seen who is willing to share his knowledge) on this subject, he has tried most if not all of the distribution companies. If...

Re: Black Friday 2019 Deals

Looks like line 6 amp farm 4 is currently 50% off, so $100 to buy or $25 if you have an older tdm license to trade in. Not sure if this is a permanent price change or just a cyber week deal.

Re: Pro tools 5 System

I was always under the impression that 5.1.3 was the last os9 version for MIX, while 5.2 was for LE and 5.3.1 added support for HD cards. But looking back it’s still a bit fuzzy....:D

Re: Behringer WING WOW!!!! Looks Great!

Considering it also has connectivity as an audio interface, this has some serious bang for the buck. The feature set and price looks awesome, quality/support/reliability is the only thing I would be...

Re: Pro tools 5 System

One other thing to be careful of, is floppy authorizers. The beige G3’s had built in floppy disk that worked fine for this, but the G4’s require a special external USB floppy. iirc, there were only 3...

Re: Pro tools 5 System

Been awhile, but I think the mdd models that had only fw800 ports were only able to boot in OS X. There might have been a mod that allowed them to boot os9, can’t remember.

Re: Pro tools 5 System

The fastest G4’s were the mirror drive door (MDD) models. They were super loud because they ran so hot. You can modify them with quieter fans, but they are still noisy unless you do some serious...
