Although I have downloaded 9.0.5 this morning, I'm going to wait to upgrade from 9.0.3 (which works). OS is 10.6.8. Reading this has been very helpful, and may have saved me some headaches.

That actually appears to have been the problem. I replaced the firewire cable, and it proceeded to load PT LE on launch. I later got a message that it couldn't communicate with the 003. On restart...
