Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results

This is very close to what I'm considering. How is it running so far?

End of MIDI clips gray?

I'm on PT 12.8.3 at the moment and I’ve been using EZ-Drummer2 for a few years now.

Yesterday something weird was happening when I was dragging clips from the EZD window into my session.

Re: Intel i7-9700k

I'm very interested in this post because I'm toying with replacing my i7-960 @ 3.20 GHz with an i7-9700k @ 3.60 GHz, paired with a Gigabyte Aorus Master motherboard.

Re: new PC: will PT performance jump?

Darryl,

I really wasn't looking for troubleshooting advice. My simple question is whether a newer multicore processor would impact overall performance in a positive way.

I'm considering a new...

new PC: will PT performance jump?

I've been using Pro Tools every day for a few years now. I've been pricing out a new build and have pretty much settled on it.

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that this will increase...

Re: Intel i7-9700k

Thanks, weed. I've known about them for a while. I like their stuff but their pricing is always way out of my league.

I spec'd out a couple of different builds on https://pcpartpicker.com/ and...

Re: Intel i7-9700k

This is all very useful for me because with the End of Life approaching for Win 7, I'm planning a new machine--working on the specs right now and have a lot of the same questions. Trying to decide...

Re: Use of Pro Tools with M-Box Pro

Thanks, Southsidemusic. I'm not new to Pro Tools, but I am not familiar with everything that's out there. But when I clicked the link the guy provided I just gulped.

Re: Use of Pro Tools with M-Box Pro

Thanks, Darryl--I am not alone then.

I was pretty shocked because I'd already told the guy that I use 12.8.3 but will upgrade to Pro Tools 2019. I also told him that I use a PreSonus BlueTube V2...

Re: Use of Pro Tools with M-Box Pro

Thanks, Darryl. I actually wrote to Sweetwater yesterday asking if there was a new model or interface comparable to the digidesign003rack.

They came back suggesting this

Re: Use of Pro Tools with M-Box Pro

Thanks Darryl and Albee. Good to know.

I checked the digidesign003rack and see that's apparently discontinued. Will need to look for an alternative, I guess.

Re: Use of Pro Tools with M-Box Pro

I also have an MBox Pro (3rd generation).

I'm wondering what happens once it reaches the end-of-life date: Is it just that there will be no more firmware updates?

Can I assume that it will...

Re: rebooting after a PT crash

I'll post the specifics the next time this happens. What I usually see after a PT crash is that I see an error that PT cannot be found. I'm on the road so I can't provide the exact wording.

Glad...

rebooting after a PT crash

I'm running PT 12, Win 7 Pro 64X.

I see a lot of posts on sites like Pro Tools Expert about bug fixes versus new features.

The most annoying thing I've come across is that when PT crashes the...

Re: PT 12.8.3 choking on freeze track

I'm currently running PT 12.8.3.

I've been running PT 10 thru 12 in the same machine since 2016, with very few issues. This choking on track freeze only started a week or so ago.

System info:

Re: Does PT 12.5 slow down after awhile for you?

I see it in 12.8.3. Sometimes quitting PT resolves it.

PT 12.8.3 choking on freeze track

On big projects with lots of tracks and plugins I routinely freeze tracks once they are "done." I unfreeze them later if I'm making changes. This saves me the hassle of running out of CPU power.

Re: Managing rendered files

OK--now this is clear and I'll address these points.

I'm very careful with file names and will continue this practice.

Thanks for all your help!

Re: Rendered freeze files in Pro Tools 12.6

I'm wondering whether there is any update on this. Yesterday I started a new post about this issue.

PT 12.8.3 seems to accumulate rendered files.

I freeze files frequently when I won't be working on them, to save CPU use, particularly in projects where I have a lot of tracks and a lot of plugins.

I unfreeze them when making changes.

Re: Clean install of 12.8?

That's the plan! :-)

I was concerned that I'd spend a few days sorting this out...it was really only the time it took to uninstall and reinstall.
