Re: MOTU 24i/o 24-bit/96 kHz pciE converter
Punching in on Pro Tools native is awful.
Something like Logic makes life a lot easier; proper input monitoring without workarounds, the fact that plug-in performance is much better, and if you do...

Re: MOTU 24i/o 24-bit/96 kHz pciE converter
TDM does not have bad latency; the point is that there is no real difference in latency for plug-in usage between TDM and native. 1 sample is immaterial.
Last decade, the issue was the power of...

Re: MOTU 24i/o 24-bit/96 kHz pciE converter
That's completely false. Plug-in latency with TDM is higher than native. Always. Full-stop. I don't know about HDX-DSP, but with TDM, every plug-in has at least 1 sample of latency. Compared to...

Re: MOTU 24i/o 24-bit/96 kHz pciE converter
What's currently wrong with your FireWire setup?
PCIe has the potential for lower latency versus FireWire in theory.
What do you expect to be "better"? Latency? Roundtrip latency is lower on...

Re: MOTU 24i/o 24-bit/96 kHz pciE converter
Beware of hype and marketing. People are gearwhores. Subjective descriptions of AD/DA is interesting, but even more interesting is the fact that all of the double-blind tests that are done show that...

Re: Is registration on 2 iloks posible ?
You bring all that stuff, and you are complaining about buying another $50 piece of hardware and a $600 license?
Better yet, since you are willing to go with "less than optimal" backups,...

Re: Is registration on 2 iloks posible ?
Do you have a backup computer with you? How about a backup interface? A backup board/preamps? Backup microphones? A backup singer?
Breaking an iLok is the least likely scenario....

You either need to use the same iLok on two computers or you need to buy another license.

Re: How bout a hybrid.
Breaking down the price of the components, it really should be do-able. I mean, the faders are $20/each retail. Buttons and step-pots, LEDs and some LCD or OLED displays for scribble strips? ...

Re: How bout a hybrid.
That's not true, actually, for anything but the very-low budget gear. Roundtrip latency in most of these units are negligibly different when the same interface is used (PCIe, FireWire, USB). In...

I'm with you on most points, Fooks.
I disagree in the quality gap of converters; the newest converters are better, but as has been shown in multiple double-blind tests, most TRAINED ears cannot...

Re: How bout a hybrid.
Agreed, but with the right desk setup, you can do a lot with a Mackie MCU (or SSL Nucleus), a keyboard and a mouse. I think it is down to ergonomics and muscle memory. And they work with any DAW. ...

Mackie MCU and extender is under $2k. No meter-bridge, but the faders are great.

Re: What do I need to make 64 inputs?
Doing mostly sequential reads and writes... it should be fine for a while. It's not like it is being used 24/7 in a logistics server, getting pounded every second.
