Wave-form timeline out of sync with actual sound

Symptoms:

Highlight a section of the WAV file where there are no sound waves (flat silent audio). Press play. Hear a guitar playing!

My board allows an SSD and HDD to be paired. Apparently, the SSD will cache the HDD data while all files will be written to the HDD. The manual says it allows for "all the speed benefits" on an SSD...

The system is for PTLE 8.0; as with all audio builds, quietness is a concern! It will never be used for gaming. I will probably not OC very much, but I want to make sure the system will be cool...
