Re: iLok question: TDM plug-ins on an LE system?

Most of the time, you get RTAS plugins along with TDM plugins, so you can install the TDM version on LE and end up using the RTAS plugins without any problems. I do this on my MBox system and while...

Re: Reference monitoring in Pro Tools

This might or might not help the OP's situation, but since nobody mentioned it yet, I'll do it here. I use a Z-Sys 8 input digital switcher to drive a monitor DAC (Benchmark DAC-1) as my monitor...

Re: Imported Stereo Audio sounds diffused

My dumb guess is that you have some sort of sample rate conversion happening upon import and you're not using the highest quality options for that. Low quality SRC can add some of the same artifacts...

Re: TDM Altiverb!!!

I saw that too, and it made me happy! I hope they do a good job of it, as I always liked the sound of AltiVerb (but hated coping with the latency)...

Re: Revibe vs TL Space reverbs

My vote would be for TL Space. There are some truly fine impulses out there now, and TL Space is a pleasure to use on TDM - no huge latency like I have to take with AltiVerb on TDM. ReVibe is very...

Re: How do you CORRECTLY get a mix into a \"mono fi

You'd better use 6dB and not 3dB. Anything panned center that's in phase will build by 6dB, not 3dB when summed together. Fortunately, the build will be no greater than 6dB for any possible...

Re: Regenerating Delay that filters

Use a bussed delay, inserted on an aux return. On the sends section of that delay's aux, you can also set up an aux send to the same bus that the aux's input is set to. Set the send to prefader and...

Re: Quick replacement for L2/L3

Get the Sony limiter. It's hands down better than L2 or L3. More transparent if you want that and more aggressive if you want that. You have to experiment with it a tiny bit, but it's really easy...

Re: TDM future?

Hello Lee - Happy New Year!

I dunno. I just finished mixing a really piggishly track laden record using an HD3 accel and I often had an entire Accel board free. Mind you, I'm only doing...

Re: Plugin Battle - recommendations?

IMHO, Analog Channel isn't as good sounding as it should be, and Crane Song's Phoenix seems to work a lot better for me. Also consider that you'll get Inflator (or at least the 'warmth' facility in...

Re: Plugin Battle - recommendations?

For a mastering limiter, the Sony Limiter is hard to beat. It's not foolproof like L1 or L2, but if you take the time to adjust the parameters, you can get a much better sound from the Sony limiter...

Re: Noise on 192 when tracking.

You have a grounding problem. There's really nothing related to the computer or the 192 that will change this. There are two possibilities:

1) you're not effectively using the balanced inputs of...

Re: Mid Side Miking Technique

With a spaced pair and sounds recorded in in the center of the image, there's little time difference between the two mikes, so summing to mono doesn't cause many problems. Of course, sounds to the...

Re: time stretching Audio Regions

Yeah, you could trim the uneffected region so that it covers more of the timestretched region, but not the reverse. For some edits, this works, for others, it won't. Given that the TCE trimmer...

Re: time stretching Audio Regions

AFAIK, there is no automatic parameter to do this. When stripping silence for example, there's a parameter called "handle" that saves an extra amount of audio before and after the regions so you can...

Re: Altiverb 4.2.7 HTDM - anyone using it?

Altiverb HTDM uses the CPU to do calculations, so it has significant latency. If you use Altiverb's efficient / high latency mode, then you get either a ~9000 or ~18,000 sample latency depending on...

Re: Altiverb 4.2.7 HTDM - anyone using it?

TL Space can span several chips... 3.?? seconds isn't the limit, it's just a benchmark for their "medium" length version that works very well with rock / pop recordings. I don't use impulses longer...

Re: Altiverb 4.2.7 HTDM - anyone using it?

Why not try TL Space? If you have an Accel card, you can get over 3 seconds of convolution on one Accel chip with 3 samples latency. It's a heck of a lot simpler to use on TDM than Altiverb ever...

Re: vocal thickening

A pitch shift chorus can also work well sometimes. It sounds different than a straight delay based chorus, so it's worth trying. The basic idea is you use the pitch shifter to shift up the program...

Re: ACDC back in black production techniques snare

They remastered it somewhat recently and the new CD sounds even better. It's hard to believe that any improvement could have been made over the original!!!

A truly great record...

Re: Mid Side Miking Technique

Where I live, "boring" means uninteresting, not exciting. "Sterile" I mean lifeless, lacking dimension and depth. It's sort of hard to use words to describe audio, but I'm surprised you've never...

Re: Possible to model other mix-busses in HD?

Traditionally, analog mixers actually do the mixing with a pile of resistors followed by an amplifier. IMHO, the sound of the mixer is _after_ the actual summation, not applied to each element...

Re: White Paper - The Pro Tools 48-bit Mixer

If the same clock is used, then I would not expect a difference. They better actually be the same data though, not just "close".

I wonder whether these two cases always null out. I just ran...
