Having this same issue now on a 10.2 system. HD3. Didn't have this prior either. So Mike you definitely are not crazy. Have this issue in multiple rooms at our studio.

I wasn't thinking 5.1. My mixes have always been stereo for Discovery. Yeah, I would think to measure the 5.1 mix at -27. and since the dialog is always mono, you probably don't need to compensate...

The Host of the show talking to camera would be dialogue.
You don't necessarily have to gain the track after, you can gain that bus to compensate, so it prints that way. Because the dialog is on...

The waves is much easier-(use stereo itu -3 setting). Neither way is better, as they both accomplish the same thing, a stereo LoRo folddown.

i have no idea, haven't been there, but I will next time I go to Miami. I worked with Juan back in the day when he was in New York (and learned a ton from him!). Newart used to be Manhattan Transfer.

They want quad so they can do some "faux spatial surround." Its actually a Discovery in-house presentation piece played on a special "WOW" system. whatevs!
