Re: ProTools on SSD Drive, PT files and instruments on 2nd (non SSD) drive?

Stop looking at SATA drives. Get NVMe drives. Remove what is taking up PCIe slots now and install them there. Start with understanding the difference between SATA and PCIe/NVMe drives. Or wait until...

Re: ProTools on SSD Drive, PT files and instruments on 2nd (non SSD) drive?

"Looking at SSD" tells us nothing that useful. What *exact* model SSD? SATA or NVMe makes a huge difference.

SATA drives in the internal bays only run at Slow SATA II (e.g. 3G not 6G speeds).

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

I would not want to "RAID" these SSDs. I'd suggest leaving NVMe SSDs in nice JBOD configurations, simple to understand and easy to use.

This card is a PCIe 3 card, and the claimed performance is...

Re: ProTools on SSD Drive, PT files and instruments on 2nd (non SSD) drive?

What actual problem are you trying to solve? slow app startup? slow mac boot? slow session startup? slow backup? AAE errors? What exactly? How much budget do you have? What is your budget?

Are you...

Re: Clarett 8 Pre Issues

Turning off low-latency monitoring turn on Pro Tools software monitoring, that is all that does. So yes then naturally you can hear stuff via Pro Tools.

latency... you either run at a lower IO...

Re: 32 bit aax plugins in Pro Tools 1st?

Nope. Nope., and Nope. Pro Tools First, like Pro Tool is now a 64-bit application.

And not just any AAX plugin can run in Pro Tools First. It has to be ones you purchased through the Avid Store.

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Your Mac Pro has a PCIe 2 not PCIe 3 slots and the NVMe m.2 card you have is PCIe 3. You are running it at half speed. You need to look for a switch based PCIe 2 x 8 adapter card that switches down...

Re: Clarett 8 Pre Issues

Focusrite Control is *hardware monitoring* get rid of those signal paths, turn off whatever it is doing if you only want to monitor though Pro Tools.

Or even better with no Pro Tools running you...

Re: Clarett 8 Pre Issues

You have hardware monitoring enabled in the Clarrett 8. You need to read the appropriate Focusrite manual. What one are you using now?

Work out if your interface uses the old MixControl or the...

Re: NVMe upgrade for Mac Pro 4.1/5.1 Mojave

Is your SATA Evo 850 running via a SATA III adapter? The native mobo SATA II throws away some decent sequential drive performance.

Enable Trim. It’s natively supported on Mojave for third party...

Re: -9173 Error Finally Gone?

That will not happen. Windows has VSS shadow volumes already and shadow/snapshot integrations with storage systems. And in another direction ReFS that was supposed to replace NTFS and does not look...

Re: -9173 Error Finally Gone?

Yes snapshots can increase hope these things create usable backups. But even if using snapshots, if there is no way to guarantee a save/commit to disk is complete before the snapshot is taken it is...

Re: Noobie - and Latency

Sounds like it is working as expected. You can record and measure the latency to confirm.

If you want to use hardware monitoring you need to read the documentation and work out how to use mix...

Thanks for providing such a clear description and including what you have tried.

How are you...

Re: Purchasing a NEW 27‑inch iMac with Retina 5K display.

That can work, and you may be the best way to go for some folks. Part of my goal was to avoid any external disk, but the moment you allow external disk the options may flip around like this. For...

Re: Mono channel meter level lower than Master’s meter level

I love that you went to signal gen to test, and suspect with a little more playing you will solve it.

Is the meter pre- or post- fader? (master fader meter is always post fader)

What type of...

Re: iMac fans starting to get hot and very noisy again!

My gut feel is its likely not "just the graphics card", I would more expect a combination of stuff, maybe a faulty fan, corrupt PMC, poor airflow, bad thermal paste, faulty temp sensor, etc.

And...

Re: Purchasing a NEW 27‑inch iMac with Retina 5K display.

EDIT: GRR iOS has decided it's going to autocorrect NVMe to NVNe. Hopefully fixed them all.

Jack are you pointing this out for external use on an iMac with a USB carrier/sled?

If so you can...
