I've had the same issues but reinstalling IE7 has still stuffed my system.
Does cs9 patch for PT address any of the IE8 issues at all??

My laptop connects to a LaCie external FW drive via 4pin FW cable..

Ok, got my 003 back from having new FW chip and protection diodes replaced under warranty and still having issues.
Called Dell and they replaced the FW parts and cables in my XPS 420 Intel Core 2...

I had the same issue when I recently upgraded my firmware also during a PT upgrade.
It can be a slow process - it took 15mins for my firmware update, so if you are waiting longer than say 20mins,...

Hotswapping the 003.. not recommended.
PC FW ports are generally ok to hotswapping on..

I spoke to Digi Australia and they seem to think the FW port in the 003 has been fried. :eek:
It is still under warranty so its off for repair/replacement.

I'm thinking of adding a FW PCI card to my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop.
I use it for audio only and tweaked it pretty much for PT (7.4cs4).

Like sw rec says, use the line input.
I have a pair of old 70's Auditronics 110A mic pres which I use in front of an MBox original.
Just select Line input and you'll bypass the MBox mic pre stage....

I run the same setup.
I just switch to instrument as my source - never had any issues. Just make sure your not too close to your monitor (screen) as pickups love to pickup its EMI..
