Re: TPDF vs. POW-r Dithering

Old post but in 2019 there's no difference between bouncing to disk or printing to a track in PT12+ at least...

As for the Dither question, for me.. POW-R2 for most things, but it can be program...

Re: Disable Countoff Completely?

FYI the count-off control is indeed in the top bar 'midi' but it is also actually in 'expanded transport' BUT only the floating window transport (you bring this up from the menus or press ctrl+1...

Re: How do people survive with 96 voices at 88.2k?

While recording at 88.2/96 offers little benefit, plug-ins running at higher sample rates can often work (sound) a LOT better, esp if you have mix bus heavy plug usage.

Dan Lavry theorised the...

Re: Where can I download the Avid Link App for iPhone 10 ?

But there's a video playing (before streaming) like a placeholder, with people talking, playing lutes (or some such), surely that would indicate there should be sound? Someone posted that on the iOS...

I only need it as I'm getting zero sound on the live stream vid (NAMM). Anyone fixed that issue?

I'm getting no sound in avid-link on windows 10, everything is set right, meters are moving as if there should be sound (in volume panel) everything else on the net is giving sound just not...

Re: Ryzen 32 core

Forget AMD for PT and most DAWs (and lots of other non multicore specific software - so unless you're doing heavy video/3D rendering).

Get an intel 8700k and overclock it 4.8-5ghz all cores on air...

Re: 911! Anyone know the power supply for D Command?

Always check capacitors on PSUs (virtually 'free' if you can solder) before buying whole new PSUs.

Easy to check, easy to change and in 8/10 cases it'll be a cap that's gone bad or is going bad.

Re: Where can i buy a Power Supply for my D-Command ?

Before spending on PSUs, check the capacitors (usually these fail first on PSUs) you could feasibly end up replacing them (soldering in new ones) for mere pennies vs the hundreds for the PSU.

Re: Just bough an Ultrawide Monitor - WOW

Been using autohide since 98 on windows (IIRC) so it's never been distracting to me (it would be more distracting seeing all the icons for apps I'm not currently using imo). Move to edge of screen...

Re: Just bough an Ultrawide Monitor - WOW

16:10 (1920x1200) beats 1080p hands down. I can't abide 1080p screens near PCs. It feels like the bottom of my world is chopped off (for no reason other than laziness to tie in with the TV industry)....

Re: Pro Tools 12 vs Studio One 3 vs Logic Pro X

Exactly.

S1 and others are not handling audio anything like as robustly as PT does. As I mentioned in my essay above, if PT stops recording it's for a good reason usually. In S1 it'll record...

Re: Pro Tools 12 vs Studio One 3 vs Logic Pro X

I've used both Studio One (V2 and V3 and tried V4) and PT (various but mostly 12 HD which I love) extensively.

Pro Tools is still beautiful to work with, all things considered, because where it...

Re: I can't use any PSP plugins in PT12 - Win 10

I have the same issue with PSP, esp the E27 eq (which is otherwise great)

I too wrote to PSP to no avail.

What I would avoid doing is anything anyone has written above (bug hunting) a...

Re: Heat

Exactly. Heat is great. Waves are not.

Tell that to waves fanboys and they stick their fingers in their ears (in fact they may already have fingers in ears if they can't hear how bad waves stuff...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

Crosstalk is not summing, it's just one arftifact (and also part of c onsole shaper that is mostly recommended to run as low as possible anyway).

Summing is entirely different. NLS at best fakes...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

Try something decent like mix fx and you'll go beyond 'incredible placebo' results. Trust me. NLS is poor, most of waves plugs are a joke that have only continued to live on past hype because...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

Oh the waves defence force is in again eh? Using ears is exactly what led me to these anti-waves conclusions. Me and many others. They make the worst sounding 'analog' emus around and are often...

Re: Pro Tools placing sound EARLY??

I have this on HD older version, if your audio interface isn't an avid one or one that mimics its (high) latency then audio often comes back 'early' when bouncing/commiting through hardware.

Use a...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

Waves stuff is always 'on sale', but it's just a marketing trick. They price them high then pretend they are on sale so people jump on them.

FTR NLS is nothing like what HEAT or CONSOLE shaper...

Re: HW insert setup

I had similar issues bouncing stuff through analog hardware.

There is a delay that PT doesn't account for, small ms (2ms ish usually it seems for most).

So for me I had 23 samples out. I use...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

Or if on D-Command , hit both track's solo buttons at once (after having one initially not solo'd) to flip which is solo'd! :-)

I'll do that often for quick A/Bs, if I really want to focus I'll...

Re: Saturation, Analog Warmth, etc. plugins

True Iron is cool, though it's not doing what HEAT or Console Shaper in Studio One does (at the mix/engine level), not that this thread is about only that.

Talking of HEAT. What versions of PT...

Re: 12.8.2, HEAT, and DC Offset Bug

How far back does this bug go (I saw it was 'finally' fixed in 2018.X).

Did it appear in a certain version or has it been there since HEAT was a thing?
