Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

@neilparfitt (the chap that made the video I posted above) kindly measured the rack handles – they're at least 2.5". So that would make the Mac Pro rack just under 19" deep from the front panel...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Thanks! Yeah, the adventure continues. I guess I could always use adapters at both the front and back if required. From the front rail to the very back wall I have 660mm (26") to play with –...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Yes. I guess I was trying to wish them into being shorter than the specified 24” in real life, hah!

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Ah, rack rail adapters may save the day if I want to use the supplied rack rails. If anyone on this thread receives a rack Mac Pro, would be great to know the minimum length of the rails.

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

My rack dimensions are 600mm front to back, 480mm strip to strip. The rack Mac Pro is 539.5mm front to back including handles. So, depending on the depth of the handles, I reckon it will fit on a...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Hmm, I measured my rack and it's only 480mm from the front to back strips – the 600mm dimension is the rack frame itself. It's hard to actually tell how well the new Mac Pro would “just fit” because...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Yeah, mine is open at both front and back anyway. The rails are attached at both ends to support the weight so it’s more a question of how to space them at the rear. I suppose worst case option is to...

Worth a watch, if you like unboxing videos... which reminds me, Apple need 24" clearance for the rack rails, anyone tried to squeeze them into a 600mm deep rack?

Re: MTRX 8-channel card not showing in Pro Tools

If you don't have any other interfaces, you can set it to Pri/Pri and both ports to MTRX 32x32 –*then you have 64 I/O to play with.

Re: NAMM new HDX or nothing!!!

Here’s an idea given Avid seems to be OEM’ing a lot of hardware these days. License the UAD cards and put a TDM bus connector on them. Instant plugin ecosystem and low latency (because it would avoid...

Re: 2019.12 HD Driver install bricked my MBP

NB: PT might not work with Thunderbolt 3 chassis.

I would start your laptop in target disk mode and trash /Library/Extensions/DigiDal.kext. See if that helps... (obviously you'll need another Mac...

Re: NAMM new HDX or nothing!!!

I'm not a DSP programmer but, I imagine it's as much market forces at work, as the nature of the industry has changed (and native has become much more powerful than it was at the time of TDM's...

Re: NAMM new HDX or nothing!!!

In the current HD Driver's Info.plist, it appears there's support for a high voice count variant (same device ID, different subsystem ID as HDX). But this could also just be a HDX card with newer...

Re: NAMM new HDX or nothing!!!

I wonder if the next iteration of HDX might be an incremental one that supports the higher voice count that was originally promised last year.

Re: NAMM new HDX or nothing!!!

Sure. If you want lots of storage, a UAD satellite, more than one HDX card, video out, etc then the Mac Pro probably ends up being cheaper as you're not paying for all those extra chassis.

But ironically now the Mac Pro has (once more) slots in which to put it.

Re: Too much GPU usage

Interesting. I'm running a RX480 now and GPU is getting slammed. I am thinking of upgrading to the new Mac Pro and am not sure whether to get the RX580 or wait for the W5700X.

Is anyone...

Re: LG ultrawide display & CPU problems?

It does seem better since upgrading to Mojave and recent version of Pro Tools. But the UI is still sluggish compared to running at non-Retina resolutions and the GPU usage is at 100% once a Pro Tools...

Re: Too much GPU usage

Following up on this. Pro Tools driving a 4K monitor slams my RX480 at 100% GPU usage; setting it to open in low resolution fixes this. I wonder if it is an issue that Avid can and will address, or...

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1

I suspect a lot of people (particularly in the semi-pro market) also want to use their computer for other things. Also, maintaining your own operating system is expensive, even if it is based on...

Re: MTRX-> HDX or MTRX->Dante

Ravenna/AES67 will interoperate with newer Dante firmware but only at 48kHz.

I've been using the KLANG:quelle, works great except you'll have to organise your own headphone mixes in Pro Tools as...

Re: MTRX-> HDX or MTRX->Dante

I asked a vendor about this at AES last year. They said that because of the Dante chipset licensing cost (to support the N:2 mixer) it would likely be too expensive.

Control/DADman flakiness

I am on EuControl 19.12.1.23, Avid Control 19.12.1.3 and DADman 5.3.4.5. I find that EuControl loses its connection to DADman – the Assign tab will re-assign Monitor and Control Room to Pro Tools,...

Re: Video Satellite without Ultimate

Yeah, it doesn't drift because it is locked through word clock (via Dante in this case) – but it sounds like I need a Sync HD on both systems to align the start point to the same sample.
