Re: OS not adequate for Pro Tools

You might try installing 12.5 or 12.7 and upgrading over the top to 2018.

Re: windows 7 still works?

You can leave PT10 installed and have PT11+ co-installed. You will have to install the 64 bit versions of all your plugins, of course.

Re: PT2018 / i7-7820x performance

First, turn off speed step and set the system to run the max turbo speed 100% of the time.
If you can get that to work, try for a stable overclock in the neighborhood of 4.0 to 4.4GHz.
Make sure...

Re: PT 12.8.3 - last version for Win 7 Support!?!

Postponed updates are not the same as chosen, if and when I decide they needed. If you do any searching you will see many people who's systems get shut down by driver updates (Media Composer, for...

PT 12.8.3 - last version for Win 7 Support!?!

Even the money grubbers at Microsoft are supporting Windows 7 for a couple more years. But PT 12.8.3 is it for AVID.

I refuse to run Windows 10 because the forced updates, and telemetry. I also...

Anyone got a link to ilok Manager 3.1.7?

I am leery of moving target known as 4.0.x and ilok support is giving me a line of BS about only supplying the current version.

Thanks.

Re: 12.8.1 Released

Another view of the problems, like many others involved the software business I have read before in this forum, that is spot on.

Re: Are HDX cards best way to get most power for PTHD

HDX is the best way to get very low latency and high simultaneous I/O count.

To mix large projects you need as many cores as you can get at the highest speed.

Re: Where is 12.8?

This could change the landscape a just a little. DaVinci 14 now has integrated DAW, with optional hardware acceleration.

Re: AAE error -9173 stronger than ever on PT 12.5

There is no explanation of what Fast! actually does on their website. Do you know anything about how it changes the behavior of the system?

Re: Please help rating older I7-3770 processor's "power" for PT12

You might want to try different driver versions for your audio interface and graphics card. There also could be some drivers for USB or other devices that are eating up CPU cycles. Also make sure...

Re: Please help rating older I7-3770 processor's "power" for PT12

Glad to hear Win 10 runs well for you. But that's not what I mean.

By definition, an OS that does not allow you to fully control the application of updates/patches is not "stable". You will...

Re: Please help rating older I7-3770 processor's "power" for PT12

My opinion is that 4 cores @ 3.4Ghz is reasonably strong, but 8GB of ram is too little. I would suggest 16GB or 32GB if possible. You may be doing some swapping in the background, and even with SSD...

Re: Curious: How many of you are letting your license ride..

I like your hardware/software strategy. Get what works and be ready to stand pat. I just bought a spare Z97 and X99 motherboards so I can run Windows 7 for many years, not being forced to upgrade...

Re: Curious: How many of you are letting your license ride..

Having made my living in the computer/IT business since 1982, I can say that the marginal reliability of Pro Tools 12 would not be tolerated in any other "serious" application such as accounting,...

Re: On the fence about subscription

Here is what AVID is doing:

1) Continuing to plow money into cloud collaboration - hoping to hook you in

2) Dabbling in DSD audio with the new interface

Given that you can buy a new copy...

Re: No Pro Tools 13 for me unfortunately.

Protools 12.6+ is Protools 13.

That is why the license had to be surrendered.

Re: AVID Where's the option to disable EVERYTHING TO DO WITH "PROJECT"?

It is obvious that all these cloud features were planned a long time ago by someone very high up, and you are going to get them whether you like it or not.

I knew when I bought my HD support plan...

Re: Video: Pro Tools 12.6.1 HD unusable for 2 minutes after launch then fine

Maybe this is why some folks have had luck by disabling Pro Tools from using certain cores. Can you do this on a Mac?

Re: Video: Pro Tools 12.6.1 HD unusable for 2 minutes after launch then fine

It's obvious you've got way too much RAM, and too many cores.

I get high blood pressure from just watching the CPU meter, I've seen it on my system from time to time also with Wndows 7, not...

Re: Repeated Error AAE-9171

I'm a PC guy, not Apple, but the 17,000 idle wake ups gets my attention. Is there something that is turning itself off to save energy and that has to be constantly re-enabled?

Re: Avid: A question about "bug fixes" after my plan runs out

Your non-renewal is the kind of feedback Avid needs to hear, and hopefully will do something about, with a reliable release under it.

Re: Avid: A question about "bug fixes" after my plan runs out

There are at least two ways I can think of:

1) Lock/Unlock features in licensing, like they do with Vanilla/HD

2) Add new features as modules, almost like plugins, leaving the base code...

I would hope that both Post and Music would want to see the design problems that cause -9173 issue fixed.
