Re: Can I do something to enhance my Mac Pro (mid 2012) Performance?

Both.
OS on fast drive: Boot, app launch, general.
Sessions on fast drive: Sessions load, audio processing, saving, copying, so on.
They could be two separate, or one larger.

Re: Newbie Question from long time user

Never seen that.
Could it be a modifier key stuck on your keyboard?
No. If it's showing up only on specific sessions.
What do the sessions have in common?
What do the sessions with normal grabber...

Re: Can I do something to enhance my Mac Pro (mid 2012) Performance?

Not shure I understand.
Upgrading the processor and ram without increasing disk read/write speeds to up to ten times would be nonsense!
(Edit: OK, perhaps I exaggerate, but it's at least 5x. And...

Re: Can I do something to enhance my Mac Pro (mid 2012) Performance?

regarding SSD speeds:

I had a MP 2008 3.1, w/SSD and spinners in the drive bays. I bought a relatively cheap Sonnet PCIe adapter and two OWC Extreme Pro 6G SSD to put on it. One for OS/apps, and...

Re: Can I do something to enhance my Mac Pro (mid 2012) Performance?

Doubling the ram might let you run bigger sessions with more VI's more easily. If 32 is enough, 64 would make no difference.

I second Jack's suggestion on SSD on PCI adapter card. I'd put my money...

Re: Pitch dips on HDIO?

Did you accidentaly hit shift-spacebar which triggers half-speed? :D
Sorry. I recently did it myself, and I needed a few seconds before I realized what happened.

Re: Massive CPU overload and glitching all of a sudden +9128 error

No expert here, but just throwing out a couple of things:
Nothing changed in plugin-folder?
No change in prefs?
No change in hardware?

Have you something to monitor temperature on the system?...

Re: Not Remembering Window Positions

Update:
It seems full screen or not has nothing to do with it.

What I have to do is place one of my windows, mix or edit, so it is not exactly in top left corner (where it "snaps into place"),...

Re: MBox 2 Pro and Pro Tools LE 8

So, you have a mac!
Then, you'll have to be careful to have matching versions of PT & OS there also. I'm not shure, but I think we're talking OSX 10.4 for PT 8.0 LE, or thereabouts.

Re: MBox 2 Pro and Pro Tools LE 8

PT8 and Win10 is very much not compatible. I don't think you'll ever get that to work. I think you must have at least PT11 for Win10.
Also Mbox 2nd gen is very old now.
I think your best bet is to...

Re: Use New iMac as 2nd Monitor on 2010 Mac Pro

Too bad.
Also it seems, my advice about restarting is outdated. On the apple support page you linked to it clearly says you just need to hit command-F2 to make it happen.

Re: Replacing Macbook Pro

Yep.

And on Geekbench you should look at the single- not multicore score.

And the OP did say "tight budget" that's why I said 8gb is possible, depending on the type of session.

Re: Replacing Macbook Pro

I know two things; processor speed is most important, not no. of cores, and the amount of ram you need depends on what kind of sessions you do.

If the session runs fine with 16gb, upgrading to...

Re: Use New iMac as 2nd Monitor on 2010 Mac Pro

Target display mode is as old as OSX.
The clue is; you connect the two, you have one mac running, you turn on the second mac, and press the key combination of that mac during startup. The second mac...

My thoughts:

I did a fresh install of OS and PT,...

Re: The most stable MacOs/PT combo now?

I guess it's because not many people have gone thru all or very many possible combinations and tested them, and also, because many, when they find a setup that works "don't fix it" and stay there, PT...

Re: My 2018 Mac Mini vs. the e2008 Mac Pro it replaced...

I recently retired my 2008 mac pro too. I now run PT2020.3 on a 2017 i5 imac w/only 8gb ram. Even with a modest machine like this, I'm very happy with the performance.

On mac benchmarks the imac...

This is what I'm experiencing these days, I hope you can find it useful:

I'll try to make it short:
Coming from 2008 Mac Pro with dual boot SL/PT10 and HS, I recently got a 21,5" 2017 i5 iMac...

Re: protools HD 8.1.1 with mac 10.6.8 qualified or not? issue w avid plug ins

I've actually run PT10 on 10.6.8 for several years on 2008 mac pro 2.8gHz quad-core, and all I can say is it's very solid and stable.

Yes. Trick works for PT2020 remebering window positions on multiple screens. Just place the windows a bit "out of position" and the session reopens with same windows arrangment.
Once I save the...
