Re: Dante PTP Clocking

It's a rabbit hole :)

But if you're running in AES67 mode, you can use a PTPv2 clock and a Dante device will act as a boundary clock to PTPv1. But, AES67 comes with a bunch of other limitations...

Re: Using SYNC HD with Two HD Omni systems.

If the systems are locked with word clock (or loop sync), they won’t drift, however they may not start at precisely the same time, even with positional information delivered over Satellite or...

Re: Using SYNC HD with Two HD Omni systems.

One more thing: Loop Sync isn't really going to work because both systems will think they are the loop master.

If you're OK with a variable offset each time you hit play (in a Satellite Link...

Re: Using SYNC HD with Two HD Omni systems.

If you want the systems to start at exactly the same place, and not drift, both systems need to be both synchronised (same position) and syntonised (same frequency). If you only do the latter, even...

Re: Using SYNC HD with Two HD Omni systems.

I may be completely off base here but: I don't think Pro Tools recognises Loop Sync across systems, I think you'll need to feed ordinary WC out of the Sync I/O (or the first Omni) into the second...

Re: ShoeTool_EstimateMemoryUsage spamming logs

I'm pretty sure the error is harmless, it has been reported (PT-261010) but it doesn't seem to have been fixed yet...

Re: First steps with MTRX Studio

An interesting, suppose I should have read the manual. I don't really use parallel inserts so I suppose it doesn't matter (well, except for reverb, but that's just more pre-delay right?). Something I...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Maybe I'm not following this correctly (just jumped in), but the MTRX and MTRX Studio do report their converter latencies correctly to Pro Tools for delay compensation, right? Or do they not? I...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

That's a good point. IIRC, with the RX580 or W5500X there are two Thunderbolt busses (front panel and I/O card). The dual-width GPUs add an extra two. (Each bus has two ports, and all Thunderbolt...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

I'd probably stick with the same order as suggested earlier, but you could also try: W5500X in slot 1, HDX cards in slots 2-4, SSD in slot 5. The only catch here is that you will need a longer SATA...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

According to here (https://www.sonnettech.com/product/fusion-flex-j3i/overview.html), it fits in the space next to the PCIe slots. So you don't lose any slots.

There are probably some...

Re: MTRX Studio, Logic, Live and Pro Tools?

Rewire support is bundled with the applications themselves and works (subject to its architectural limitations) with current versions of Pro Tools and Live on Catalina.

Re: MTRX Studio, Logic, Live and Pro Tools?

Can only speak to Live. DVS works, latency sucks though as you point out, so MADI or Dante PCIe would be a better option. You can send MTC or beat clock over IAC to sync the transports.

Or you can...

Re: Questions for those with an MTRX + outboard.

Definitely! I mean, it's not cheap, and had the MTRX Studio been available that may have been a better option for me (although it lacks AES I/O). Otherwise, only good things to say :)

Re: Questions for those with an MTRX + outboard.

Should be fine, neither is using a lot of PCIe bandwidth and the new Mac Pro has plenty to spare. But if you’re worried make sure you can return it

Re: Questions for those with an MTRX + outboard.

It’s possible a Dante PCIe care would’ve been a smarter investment than the M64 but yes, I agree I’d prefer a USB-C/TB3 card for the MTRX (at least, I would if I hadn’t already found an alternative)....

Re: Questions for those with an MTRX + outboard.

Good question. I tried the Avid CoreAudio driver but, as has been discussed here before, it doesn't work at all with Ableton, and also doesn't help with monitoring Spotify/iTunes/etc whilst Pro Tools...

Re: Questions for those with an MTRX + outboard.

For a different perspective:

I just went with hard-patching everything into the MTRX. I like the fact that all the I/Os are named in Pro Tools. But it does of course restrict the possibility for...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Most here (myself included) think the 16 core is the sweet spot between clock speed and core count. It's also not as ridiculously expensive as the 28 core. I don't know how many owners of the 28 core...

Re: HDX-II What are the chances?

Yeah, the S6L and S3L (and even earlier VENUE) use AVB. Presumably a sunk cost for Avid. Were they to build a networked DSP platform, then I reckon they're more likely to use AVB than Dante for host...

Re: HDX-II What are the chances?

Hah, true. But I think Avid is too invested in AVB. And Dante is a tax they only need to pay when interfacing with the outside world.

Not to detail the OP but I have been hacking away on an AES67...

Re: HDX-II What are the chances?

My hunch is that it will be stackable DSP (a la UA), connected via AVB, but still using the TI DSPs. Perhaps a firmware update for the MTRX Studio to let it support AVB instead of Dante. Of course, I...
