Re: Command|8 - I like it!

Well it's all about looks, really... it looks much more snazzy with 'proper' fader caps.

No seriously - I found that the lozenge shaped caps were less precise in that my finger could sort of move...

Re: Fader Resolution Problem w/ Presonus Faderport - PT 2019

I can't reliably get +/- 0.1 either way but in my case it appears to be more to do with the advanced age of the hardware. Individual faders work better or worse than each other or better in some...

Re: Fader Resolution Problem w/ Presonus Faderport - PT 2019

I just did some tests with my Command 8 to see what was the smallest 'wave' I could repeatably make, and got to +/- 0.2dB, with a really steady hand... I realise this is a very different piece of...

Command|8 - I like it!

I bought a Command 8 cheap with a bad power supply but found it still didn't work even with a new psu - so I solved the problem by buying (yet) another one...

Which is working beautifully. Given...

Re: Pro Tools 2019 slow dialog boxes

You may have a point there. I have D300, and I'm using three displays. I wonder if that's a factor. I'll try removing one when I get a moment.

Pro Tools 2019 slow dialog boxes

This is a problem that's plagued me since I upgraded to 2019 but I've been so busy I've just ignored it. Dialog boxes (and plugin windows) take ages to open.

An extreme example would be when I do...

Re: Missing HEAT!

Mind you, in the 2019.5 manual the word "paid" appears

Re: Missing HEAT!

Yup. I fell for that one. Or something similar I read in Avid documentation at the time. It really did seem as if HEAT was part of Ultimate.

Re: Missing HEAT!

but then that would p*ss off people like me who paid for HEAT (people like me who are already p*ssed off because we upgraded to Ultimate in order to get HEAT and it turns out we didn't need to).

Command 8 faders dead

It's a long shot but maybe somebody knows what this might be...

I bought a 'for parts' Command 8 which had a burnt-out transformer. Having replaced the transformer and confirmed both 12v AC...

Re: 2019.8

Show-off. (just kidding!)

But the point remains, why can't the GUI just function normally during a bounce...

Re: 2019.8

That's as may be but I'm mixing a jazz album where some of the tracks are 15 minutes long. Having done the actual mix, I'm watching the DR meter to check I've got matching average levels in similar...

Re: 2019.8

When I'm sending a mix out to a client, I always bounce to disk in real time and listen to it while it's happening - it's my final check. So for 2019.8 I'd really like Pro Tools to make its mind up...

Re: Hardware insert confusion - help!

I've figured it out by myself - or at least found out what was going on.

The trouble-maker is Ozone 8. If I de-active it, everything works as it should. Put any other plug-in in its place and...

Hardware insert confusion - help!

I'm very confused.

Preparing to test some outboard I've just bought, I have patched my Quantum 4848 interface with outputs 7-8 connected to inputs 7-8.

Opening a session I happen to be working...

Re: HDX vs Native

Just curious - when we discuss HDX versus native are we specifically talking about the HD Native card/box, or also about Pro Tools software in general i.e. with a third-party interface?

I have no...

Re: HDX vs Native

Latency is the inherent delay between asking a question and getting a useful answer. In this system, the background noise isn't part of the signal; you have to listen to it first.

Re: HDX vs Native

I don't have the smarts to add up all the numbers really. All I know is that when the drummer is waving at the window and calling "bit of a delay in the cans, mate - can you do something about it...

Re: HDX vs Native

Quite so - but the jazz artists who come into my studio aren't divas. Tiny variations in timing are everything to them in some circumstances. The vibe between a drummer and a pianist during a piano...

Re: HDX vs Native

Couldn't agree more. So I never use any native plugins on tracking sessions.

Re: HDX vs Native

Janne, I'll try that when I get another chance to play around. But it doesn't change the fact that on HDX I can throw plugins around with gay abandon regardless of what they are - as long as they're...

Re: HDX vs Native

I just made a copy of one of my 48k sessions here at the...

Re: HDX vs Native

My experience is similar. At the studio, I record mainly jazz outfits and they are super critical of latency in their cans. But I like to load up the plugins while I'm tracking so I've got eq,...
