earthworks are great, but keep in mind that most of their high end stuff is fixed omni directional...

if u r down with that..... look at the TC30`s....what a pristine set of mics.

you need to use multiband compression. Those records are able to get as loud as they can while keeping punch because they dont compress the entire two mix. They compress certain things.....usually...

I have heard that compressing heavily at the mixing stage actually helps the end result sound because it won`t allow the compressers at the t.v. station to squash your stuff....since you already did....
