Re: Drum compression help

I like to treat each piece separately(for the most part). I start with the kick, bussing it out to two auxes, one for high pass and one for low. Use the low aux and aim for the boom, but keep it in...

Re: Alternate techniques for De-Essing

First, send the vocal track to two mono aux tracks. One will be hi pass, one will be lo pass. Find a bad ess region to fix. Put a pass filter on the lo pass which rolls off the sibilance frequency....

Re: Alternate techniques for De-Essing

So, no fans of pass filter bus compression here? I think it offers more flexibility than using a single purpose de-esser.

Re: mouse, trackpad or what else to optimal control for PT ?

+1 for the kensington expert mouse. I am becoming almost as comfortable with the macbook trackpad, though. Pinch zoom and swipe gestures are great.

Re: Multiband Compressors

Good luck! I would say that unless you're mastering, or mix mastering, you won't need 4 bands. I usually stick with hi and lo pass, and that's enough for most sources. If you plan on getting...

Re: Multiband Compressors

I use bus pass filters into compreesion all the time, especially for mastering. It can use up more of you processing power, but you generally get more control, plus you can do it with your favorite...

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

No problem, mij. They were passed down to me by people with much more experience, so I can't take the credit.

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

I guess the important thing that I've always tried to remember is: Get it right in tracking. Then get it right in mixing. Don't expect the mixing process to fix tracking mistakes, and don't expect...

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

Well, the conversion itself induces some loss of dynamic range and sound quality. What you are doing is controlling the product all the way out. If you leave it till after mastering is finished,...

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

Mastering is a separate process from mixing. I want my mix to be finished in the full sample rate/bit rate that it was recorded in. Give yourself the benefit of full dynamic range, full detail to...

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

Well, that's why I play my masters through three pairs of headphones and three sets of speakers. You want your mix to translate to as many listening environments as possible, so I always take one...

Re: Consolidated Equalizing

It would be awesome if such a thing existed in one neat plugin. I would EQ and compress each track to sound pretty similar to each other, and then comp them together. Try using a multi-band...

Re: Mastering with one fell swoop

It depends on your mastering project structure. What I use for mastering involves at least three levels of bus processing, as well as changing the bit depth and sample rate. If you are mixing in...

Re: Powered USB for MacAir

I daisy chain two no-name hubs(both powered) on my MBP. One of the two usb ports on my machine is left open for the random thumbdrive I need to plug in. The hubs are fully loaded, with three hard...

Re: Need help with new rack system

I would recommend getting a laptop, honestly. There's no reason not to, since laptops are so powerful these days. Plus, you aren't risking damage to your computer if you accidentally drop the rack....

Leap Motion Controller shipping

Any chance this will be supported in PT10? Looks pretty awesome, in theory.

Re: Which ver OSX

Well, I don't really need to upgrade right now. I'm taking classes online that require special software, and I have a few small mixing projects in the works, so I'd really prefer to hold off until I...

Re: Which ver OSX

But I will have to reinstall every program and all of my plug-ins after the system is back up and running, right? That will take some time.

I know I'm probably late to this party, but what's the best way to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion? Do I uninstall PT10, upgrade and then reinstall PT? Or am I okay just upgrading OSX and...

Re: Acoustic Treatment or better AD/DA?

I've used small tacks to put up acoustic foam, and the holes are easy to fix with toothpaste and paint when you want to take them down. Better use of money than new convertors. Always treat the...

Re: Is Using Sends as Opposed to Inserts More Efficient?

Now that processors are better able to handle bigger dsp loads, the other thing to remember is that having one reverb and one or two delays that all tracks are using better creates the illusion that...

Re: Studio monitors under $300?

Well, it's true that cheap monitors aren't preferable, but cheap monitors are better than mixing everything in cans only. It's better to have a set of bargain studio monitors that you have the time...
