If you just now noticed the volume control on the microphone then you clearly did not read the manual thoroughly.

Plugging your headphones into the laptop is not the way to use this mic.

You have to keep the system preferences sound panel open to adjust the mic input gain. This is the only way to do it with this microphone as a USB input. See the pic
