Re: External Hard Drive for both projects and samples? Workflow Ideas?

No, but if you do that you can store sessions on your internal system drive and have samples on external.

Re: Quad-core 3.2GHz powerful enough for ProTools?

Hi, welcome to the community.

That Mac Pro 5,1 will be just fine processor power wise (and can be upgraded later for more performance) but you will want to order 32GB memory upgrade if you are...

Re: new mac tower

Maybe you would still want to consider that 2nd hand Mac Pro 4,1 model which can run 10.6.8 OS and PT 8.1.1 (which is IMO the most stable combination ever)

Re: new mac tower

Have you already understood that the cards you have are not supported after 10.8.5 OS version? Even if you use Logic, you need to stay on that OS.

Re: new mac tower

If you want to buy brand new 2019 Mac Pro, you need to forget about using anything old. You need everything else brand new too. You need brand new PT license and you also need HDX or HDN card,...

Re: new mac tower

Yes, if by "new tower" you mean 4,1 or 5,1 model and not the 2019 model that can be bought brand new. You only need to follow the compatibility information linked earlier; to repeat myself, install...

Re: new mac tower

Unfortunately you do not have upgrade path from such an old version. You need to buy new license for PT10 (but do not buy subscription because that only comes with latest version, not...

Re: new mac tower

Yes I understand that, but with the HD (TDM) cards max. PT version is 10.3.10 and it is supported on 10.8.5 OS (though with some quirks it also works on 10.9.5).

I know for sure that Mac Pro...

Re: new mac tower

Read the compatibility info I linked earlier. You cannot buy the new 2019 tower because it requires way too new OS -- take a look at 4,1 or 5,1 models, those are great for what you need.

Re: One or more licenses to surrender cannot be found in your account

Go open your iLok License Manager and double-check the licenses are on the key you think they are. Maybe they are not there but somewhere else.

Re: Can I use 2 hd core card?

If you have old PCI cards, Core card equals Process card.

Re: Plugins Not Working

Hi, welcome to the community.

Not your fault bro, Avid relies way too much that PT users actually read specs, manuals and knowledgebase.

Re: HDX or Native in this scenario

Just become a tracking nazi and record as many takes on different playlists that you need for proper comping. After that, tune the worst notes.

Re: HD Native Core Card and PE6R4-i Magma Chassis Compatibility

That would work, but when you turn on the chassis and your system sees HDN first and then TDM cards on expansion chassis it gets confused.

Re: HD Native Core Card and PE6R4-i Magma Chassis Compatibility

Even if you have TDM on expansion chassis your host chassis would have HDN installed, so for the information I have it will not work. Easiest would be swapping between HDN card and Magma card on the...

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

In percentage or dollar? If something costs 5k and another costs 50k, if you sell it for 20% loss then I'd say 7,1 loses more money.

Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

At this point any sane company would get the 7,1 that gets you through the transition. Buy a next gen chip laptop for testing purposes, but when you have a paying client coming in you dont want to...
