Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

Interesting comment. The UAD card hasn't really changed at all since inception.

Perhaps with all this CPU horsepower, it's time for UAD to go native?

But hey, some people like the UAD plug ins....

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

That would be perfect. I thought the UAD only worked with an expansion chasis.

Are there others who use this mobo and have a UAD card working?

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

Expansion chasis = 1400 USD
Quad = 1500 USD

total 3900 USD

Mac Pro 8 core = 3997 USD

For an additional 97 dollars I'll take 4 more more cores, a better (according to some) OS, and something...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

Thanks Alex. Not the answer I was hoping for. Magma's are expensive right?

That Mac Pro is looking better all the time.

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

Are you sure the UAD works? The update on the first page says they have been unable to get the UAD to work.

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

I must say I had never heard of that before. So I guess if you are not gaming, buy the lowest ram video card you can.

Now I don't feel so bad owning a Matrox with only 32 mb of ram.

S how bout...

Re: Allenstein OctaPC and Quadzilla Machine *update*

What does the videocard ram have to do with ram available to windows? I thought they were independant of each other?

And, have we got the UAD cards working on these Quadzillas yet?

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE

I dug out an older Echo audio card that came with Tracktion DAW software. I was so impressed with it that I bought the newer 2 version. Totally simple to use, and I found it motivated me creatively...

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE

Allen no need to be sorry for recommending Mac's.

As far as I am concerned, a Mac IS a PC, seeing as though it can run windows.
Since this forum is a best desktop thread in the Protools systems...

Re: Mac Pro - Davec II Test

Out of curiousity, why are your data drives in firewire enclosures?
Why not instal them in the Mac's drive bays?

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

You are not the first, and most likely not the last person to tell me how good UAD is.
I haven't heard one bad thing about them.
They are on my list of "someday I hope to own".

Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Obviously it would be stupid to go from 4 down to 1.
For some reason I thought you could link them together. On a PC you can.

Looks like a pretty good idea though. Extra dsp for your laptop, and...

Are both the PCI, and PCIe versions not working?

Between PT nad Logic, which do you prefer?...

Re: New M-Audio FireWire series drivers!

So, what exactly is the problem? Is the 1814 a piece of junk? Maudio used to be bad for support, but I heard they improved. Seems they still suck.
Cross this one off my list to purchase.
I never...

Re: Macbook or iMac?

Yikes! Can they really cost as much as a new computer to repair? That's kinda scary. I thought Macs were supposed to be the end all, be all second coming of Christ, they never crash, or break etc?...
