Re: I'm really not very happy

Bang on. DV can sell at whatever price they want, even if that means their margin taking a hit, or indeed selling at cost or a loss!

Not Avid's fault. Chalk it up as experience.

Re: HD Native Delay Comp Question

The LACK of ADC? Do you mean that it is not long enough for you? Have you got it switched on?

I don't mean to sound condescending at all...

Re: HD Native on Core Cards

Like I said, I know the relative merits of TDM and Native.

I don't want to do it! But it would be better for users of say HD1, who feel that now Native would be more powerful; if they could run...

Re: HD Native on Core Cards

So you think the HD Native card is vastly different to a TDM card in its design? So different that if Avid wanted to, they could not implement a software mixer using TDM cards? I find that hard to...

Re: HD Native on Core Cards

You've missed the point of my post...

What I'm saying is that there is no reason why Pro Tools HD Native software, could not work with the TDM cards (in place of the Native Card). I.e. it would...

HD Native on Core Cards

The way I see it, there is no reason (other than financial/business reasons) why HD Native could not be made to run with everyone's existing core cards. I can't see Avid would do it... Unless that's...

Re: HD Native now on Digi website

The same way LE does - the host computer is doing all the processing!

Not everyone uses Pro Tools to create music ;) It could well be a post session, for example.

Re: HD Native now on Digi website

It's 64 bit floating point in HD Native.

It's 32 bit floating point in LE.

Finally it's 48 bit fixed point in HD Original.

So it sure as heck isn't the same mixing bus as LE, nor HD...

Re: HD Native now on Digi website

Sounds like you actually want Pro Tools HD Accel, not Native. The only reasons HD Native might make things more stable is that you would have to upgrade to a Mac Pro... It sounds like you could get...

Re: Reference Guide

It seems to me what you are wanting is a tutorial book - not a reference book. The reference book as it is, lets you know how a certain feature works and what parameters do what etc. I find it very...

Re: PCIe or PCIx

The fact that the video card has ADC outputs on it - it must be PCIx.

The late 2005 Powermac G5s only had DVI, unless the graphics card has been changed at some point.

90% certain you'll be...

Re: PCIe or PCIx

Compare the specs at www.everymac.com

Quite useful.

Specifically only the LATE 2005 models have PCIe.

They are: Dual Core 2.0Ghz, Dual Core 2.3Ghz, and 2 x Dual Core 2.5Ghz which is commonly...

Re: 35% off Waves everything

Can't find this...

Where is it?

EDIT Found it, but it's slightly unclear what the discount is (i.e. there's only one price shown.) Is it taken off in the checkout process?

Re: Hackentosh computers and HD

I think what has actually happened is that Digi no longer distribute the Magma. AFAIK it is still supported.

I nearly went down the Hackintosh route before buying my (NOS) G5 quad.

I came to...

Re: FW or USB HDD ?

I've had pro tools fail to launch because a usb drive was connected. Once.

I've had all sorts of errors trying to record to a usb drive, and have seen others experience a multitude of problems.

Re: Is HD THAT much better than LE?

I'm just interested because I've been doing some academic research on the benefits of 48-bit fixed, versus 32-bit float DSP and I can't find any real reasons why fixed point would still be used.

Re: Which Mac Pro to get?

Whilst generally speaking what you say is a good point, it's irrelevant to this chap as he has the G5 Quad-Core which only came with PCIe slots.

I think you have answered your own question...

In which scenarios do you hear the benefits of the extra bits in the HD mix bus?

(before...

Re: So It's Official? Legacy Hardware Is Dropped??

To the OP:

Unless your signature is out of date (which is possible) it shouldn't affect you one way or the other. I'll also point out that you're using an unqualified set up and it still works.......

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Do you mean one of the movie trailers?

I'd love to keep the dialogue is the trouble. It seems incomplete without it.

Getting Into Post/Sound Design

I am primarily a music guy.

I would very much like to try my hand at sound design for film or tv.

The trouble is I don't have the material to work to.

Can anybody suggest a source for video...
