On Mac OSX this problem can be caused by moving the user account home directory. I solved this by creating 2 user accounts... MAC SOLUTION HERE:

Xpand2 not working Mac patches none no sounds SOLVED

Problem: No sounds or patches on Xpand2, selector reads None. Mac OSX.
Caused by moving the user home directory.

Solution: Two User Accounts!

Start with a fresh OS (On startup hold Command-R)....
