I have this exact problem. I have to reinsert my ilok a few times before protools recognises it. Once it recognises it I have no problems after that. I've started using a powered USB hub in my studio...

Looking at the PT12 video on Avid's homepage it seems like the only new features are that muscly dudes with bad tattoos around the world can ruin your music by covering it in hideous nu-metal riffs.

PT8 is the latest version I've used so I've never owned or paid for a copy...

Get plenty of RAM and follow the guide to setting up and running protools on your mac and it should be perfectly adequate. Make sure you're using a qualified external hard drive.

I suppose if you had a midi clock generator you could sync them so they start recording together and stay locked and then just import the 16 tracks from one into the other.

Plug some headphones into the mbox and turn the mix knob all the way to the left on the front of the mbox.

Bring your mic gain knob for mic 1 up a good bit.

Make sure the input switch is set...

Always set it as low as you can without it causing playback and recording to stop. With mixing it doesn't matter as much if you have it set higher.

Sorry. You obviously want to control your external synth from inside Protools. An instrument track is for using software synths and samplers and stuff like that inside Protools. To control your ASR10...

An instrument track is like a midi track and a aux track all in one. You don't need a separate Midi track for it.
