Re: Timecode and minutes:seconds not matching up

It should in 30 and 29.97 drop, but won't in 29.97 non-drop.

Re: DNxHR No Longer Compatible .. ?

No. Not only will FCP X etc not support it, but future support will have to be built-in to the app directly. Most (like Pro Tools, Davinci Resolve and Videoslave) already have done this.

The...

Re: Sennheiser Ambeo self noise

Don't use that, it doesn't have the correct filters, measurements etc for the AMBEO. A-format is mic-specific.

There's a new AMBEO decoder out. Harpex-X also has measurements for the AMBEO.

Re: Sennheiser Ambeo self noise

Which version of the A-B convertor are you using? I noticed lots of hiss on the 1st version, every subsequent version is much better.

Re: Sennheiser Ambeo self noise

It's not a partnership with Soundfield, they own Soundfield! As for the capsules, they're a brand new design, but beyond that not much info I don't think.

Re: New -27 LKFS Spec

Any reason not to use the LM100 preset? If they want the whole programme dialogue measured surely the short-term window length shouldn't matter? Or is there more to it than that?

Re: 44.1 vs 48 khz... looking for a simple answer

Both are true, however the discs became 12cm instead of the original 10cm to fit Beethoven's 9th. The head of Sony was good friends with a conductor at the time, or so the story goes.

44.1 is...

Re: What genius can help decipher delivery specs?

you don't need a genius to decipher them, you need a blithering moron to make sense of it as they were clearly written by one.

Re: What genius can help decipher delivery specs?

Anything below -20dB won't be audible, well assuming they mean -20 dBFS that is insane, I mean who wants backgrounds or quiet parts that high.

Awful spec.

Re: DeVinci Resolve and ProTools?

I've exported tons of AAFs successfully from Resolve. OK, some things do get broken in some versions, but broadly speaking nothing that can't be fixed, and certainly no worse than AAFs I've had from...

Re: Workflow 24/25fps

It depends how they convert the 24 to 25. If they do an optical flow frame-blend then you have nothing to worry about.

If they speed it up 4% then they'll also have to speed the sound up 4% to...

Re: DaVinci Resolve AAF problems

Odd, that used to work for me and Export to Pro Tools only made a video and no AAF!

I love Resolve, but it does have a few quirks!

Re: Layback to broadcast spec deliverable Quicktime

Ah I thought your original post was referring to the video being kept the same so it could be used as a final deliverable.

Re: Layback to broadcast spec deliverable Quicktime

They did a few articles on it a while back I think. One problem is 5.1 channel order is incorrect.

Re: Layback to broadcast spec deliverable Quicktime

Yeah, don't do it. It doesn't use the AVE, I believe it's still using old, now deprecated QuickTime code. If you load an MXF into Pro Tools it won't export video at all.

It's more a tool for quick...

Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

OP1A video will import fine, the OP was saying that audio won't import, not that the video won't.

"Same as source" will only work with QuickTime currently, not MXF. And there are lots of tools...

Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

Ah yeah, that would be the case as PT10 and prior use the QuickTime video engine. I think MXF only worked reliably with a Mojo interface.

PT11 onwards MXF is great.

Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

Currently no way to import audio from MXF media, just separate the audio in Premiere or Resolve (free) and problem solved. You can also use either for final export too. Even if you didn't move to an...

Re: Developing a DNxHD workflow?

There's no difference between MXF and MOV when using AVE. Avid have said this themselves, as long as it's a supported CODEC. Where have you heard this false information!? I've used MXF for years and...

Re: Ambisonics in Atmos

No, 1OA vs Quad makes no difference, it's still just 4 channels of audio, it's more to do with channel labelling upon Bounce to Disk, and internal routing (say a 1OA to 2OA or 3OA upmix plugin etc).

Re: Ambisonics in Atmos

There shouldn't be. What input mode are you using? Maybe the Sennheiser AMBEO plugin is outputting Ambix and Harpex-x is expecting a FuMa (labelled as B-format) input or vice-versa?

You could also...

Re: Ambisonics in Atmos

The downside of this is you lose the height information. I believe there was a template for using the 22.2 Harpex output and getting that in to Atmos. Contact Ceri Thomas at Dolby, he'll be able to...

Re: Video engine and External Disk

If your machine can't handle Sierra, I'd suggest downgrading to Yosemite. El Capitan is nothing but trouble. I run video off an external SSD over USB3, no problems with AVE.

Despite this I run...
