Re: M-Powered & Windows Vista 32 bit

There are 32 bit Vista drivers for M-Audio Firewire devices now, but I don't think Digi is supporting Vista yet with PT.

Re: 7.3 HD So far so good....

Are there any real improvements in manual MIDI editing features in 7.3? Specifically I would like to see:

1) The ability to manually drop in a note in "record quantize" mode and have it snap to...

Re: Regarding Music Production Toolkit and upgrade

Good info - thanks. I would imagine that soon (within about a year and a half) there will be a 64 bit version for Windows. It would certainly entail significant code modification.

Re: Regarding Music Production Toolkit and upgrades

^bump^

Need to know this before I shell out the cash. I need to get an idea of what an upgrade from 7.x to 8.0 will cost me.
Thanks,

Regarding Music Production Toolkit and upgrades

If I purchase the Music Production Toolkit for PT M-Powered 7.x and the next version of PT M-Powered comes out perhaps a year or two later, will the Music Production Toolkit carry over to that...

Re: 16 tracks into Protools? No longer a myth....

You can get 16 tracks with just the 1814 and a ADAT in. The 1814 and 1010 won't run together because they have different drivers. I can vouch - I have an 1814 and a 1010LT. The 1010 and the 1010LT...

Re: Pro Tools + MIDI?

Sorry, not so familiar with the Yamaha ES series. If it has or is a MIDI interface then that would likely show up in PT as a MIDI in/out. If it acts as an audio interface then PT will not see it,...

Re: Checking Mix In Mono

The quickest way I know of, and I'm not that experienced with PT really, is to move both pan sliders to the middle on the master bus. There may be a keyboard shortcut to do this - something like...

Re: Pro Tools + MIDI?

Thanks for the tips! I had asked around elsewhere about some of these but was under the impression that some of them were not possible.

Re: Pro Tools + MIDI?

As a pretty unbiased user of both PT and Cubase I can also vouch for the fact that it is much more difficult to manually edit MIDI in PT than in Cubase. It just isn't there yet. The two biggest...

Re: An 8 Input PTMP Interface That Has ADAT Output

No ADAT device (including the Octane) will run with PT by itself. It has to be run through an ADAT-compatible sound device (like the Firewire 1814). The Behringer or the Octane should work. I don't...

Re: Pro Tools/Pod XT LIVE question

If you have a PODxt Pro you can run the s/pfdif out into your M-Audio interface and keep the A/D conversions to a minimum.

If you have the PODxt or PODxt live, you must run the analog outs of the...

Re: Reverb on the snare?

Yes. By inserting it on the aux track and routing to it by a buss it becomes available as a send. A reverb (or delay) on a send should be set to 100% wet (mix at 100%).

Re: Reverb on the snare?

Reverb is a stereo effect, so it should go on a stereo aux track. It's OK that your snare is a mono source - it will work fine with a mono send and in fact the reverb will give that mono snare a bit...

Re: Reverb on the snare?

Compression as an insert effect. Look around for some helpful advice or tutorials. It's too deep a subject for me to reiterate here. It will take some time to get a feel for applying it properly.

Re: Any RTAS soundfont players available

I've never imported any sample cell stuff into Kontakt. It usually handles soundfonts perfectly and basic giga files pretty well. Some of the more complex giga samples can be very difficult. AKAI...

Re: SX 3 to PT M

I use SX 3 and Mpowered. With PT you may miss the MIDI editing features that SX 3 has. If you don't do much MIDI editing then you probably won't notice that. Workflow is quite different. Doing simple...

Re: Any RTAS soundfont players available

The soundfont format is too limited for more advanced samples. That said, it's easy-to-use, self-contained and there are many free soundfonts all over the place. It's a good place to start with...

Re: Focusing Bass Guitar Sound

You'll need to eventually emphasize some of the frequencies between about 160-220. Perhaps start with rolling off everything below about 40 and add a low shelf around 80-120 and nudge it down a bit....

Kontakt, Reason, and Kompakt are all highly recommended. Your cheapest route there however might be the...

Re: Is SATA really any better?

Certainly, if you can afford a two CPU dual core system, then the Raptor will probably fit in your budget as well.

I agree. The days of accelerator cards may be numbered. They do make for good...
