Re: effects on a midi track

I like Kontakt instruments and use them quite a bit. Have you adjusted the volume slider at the top right of the plug window? This controls the loudness of output. Maybe this is where you’re mixing?...

Re: effects on a midi track

Because effects plugins process audio, you will have to insert the fx somewhere in the audio stream of the midi instrument. PT midi tracks cary no audio, only data that trigger midi instruments. And...

Re: Beat detector

Beat Detective locates transient spikes in the audio file and adds markers. You can see the markers if you set the track to polyphonic elastic audio and warp view. Because legato violin transient...

Re: Do 101 exam results appear in your Avid account ?

After signing in to your Avid account, look for the Training section (currently in the lower left). That’s the same place you started your exam. On my own page I see only the certifications, and not...

Re: save another mix version

Yes (but please follow Weed and amagras’ advice carefully). The Pro Tools session file “points“ to the audio files in its tracks, and are usually stored in the session’s Audio files folder. So if the...

Re: SITE DOWN! Really, Avid??

My campus’ web was down for 24 hours, and my home DSL service is still down. Only able to connect with LTE. May be some large scale denial of service weirdness happening.

Re: Workflow In Elastic Audio Changed?

What can happen is that you can inadvertently select the clip, which will become shaded. Try clicking in the lower half of the clip our outside of the clip to deselect it. Then you can drag markers. ...

Re: MacOS How to Stop Application Manager from Automatically Starting

Don’t know about PT First, but with PT (full version) and PT HD, I go to the Applications folder (Mac) open the Avid folder, find Application Manager and drag it to the trash. If this isn’t possible...

Re: Length of MIDI notes makes no sense

I wonder if maybe your session has the input quantize setting checked. To see, look at Event > Event Operations > Input Quantize. Some of the notes in your pic appear to be quantized, but others...

Re: Sending Session File (MIDI)

I’d simply attach the session file to your email. It contains the midi data. Alternatively, check nothing in the Save Copy In window.

Re: Having trouble determining this tempo

If the goal is simply to increase the tempo, the “actual” tempo doesn’t matter, just increase the tempo to taste. The tempo will matter, of course, if you want to track with a metronome. But even...

Re: Pickup Bar

My personal preference is to start on beat 4 of measure 1 or 2. This way I have some roll in time built into the session, which is convenient for tracking with a metronome and for printing or...

Re: MIDI notes still there after separating and deleting part of clip

I’m also getting a funny note or three at the start of clip after copy-paste. The notes won’t be deleted until you change the position of the clip start.

Re: Jean-Michel Jarre and the Schmidt Synth

Did you notice how casually one may lean on the Schmidt with ones elbow? Can’t do that with any VI. [emoji57]

Re: MIDI notes still there after separating and deleting part of clip

Similar thing happened to me just this evening. I selected the middle of a long midi clip, and deleted. The clip outlines disappeared, but the midi notes remained. After several tries I ended up...

Re: Soundtoys on sale

Their trade-in option is cool indeed, so I jumped in for the collection for $95, including the little plate.

Re: Creating space/depth

To have the finest control of reverb plugins, be sure to use them bussed from the vocal track sends to auxes with D-verb instantiated. This way you can dial in your church reverb and also see if you...

Re: SSD4 OH and Room issue?

Just from memory, I recall that the SSD mixer has auxes on each individual channel for OH and Room. If your hat is too hot, send less of it from the hat channel to the OH or Room.

Re: can i import korg styles to pro tools 12?

Hi Keith, I know almost nothing about Korg styles. Are you able to solo the elements separately? Such as drumbeat, bass, etc? If so, you could record audio from the Korg, then convert the audio to...

Re: Detach midi editor

I rarely use the docked midi window, and as tonwurm described, the separate midi window opens when I double click a midi clip.

You're referring to the docked MIDI window that is attached to the Edit window? Look right above the solo and mute (S - M) buttons in the docked MIDI window. Do you see two white arrows, one pointing...

Re: Cable length in acoustic recording session

Here's a classic article on the three-to-one rule of mic placement. There are many others, too. The principles will definitely have more impact on the results than cable length....
