SFX files aren\'t loading to Audio Files folder

Can't say I've seen this one before...

Loading SFX files from a library CD-R is not loading files into the Audio Files folder. Instead, when I look at the full path in the regions bin, it shows...

Re: Book or Web Recommendations?

The Holman, Sheppard, and Beauchamp books are all excellent. I'd also recommend Michel Chion's "Audiovision".

Yewdall's books is very informative about the business and the process. It's not the...

Re: TA3 connectors?

Thanks guys, for both replies.

I finally found my way to SD's accessories page and found the XL-2 adaptor, for anyone else interested:

TA3 connectors?

Maybe this isn't quite the place for this thread... More of a location sound issue.

Can anyone explain the use/benefit of TA3 connectors on a field mixer? I'm in need of a mixer that can accept...

Re: favourite mouse keyboard

I just bought the Macally iceMouse USB Optical 2-button w/ scroll wheel. It's normally $40, but Amazon's selling it for $9 right now. I don't know how good it is, but that's too good a price not to...

Help! Can\'t open session

I need some help right away. I'm on deadline to finish a film mix for a client and I cannot open my sessions.

I'm getting one of those PTSess_RunTime erros. I've been dealing with this particular...

Re: Survey--anyone doing post on PT TDM on a PC?

Depends on your workflow. Last I used a PC with TDM (6.x), there was no "Quicktime DV out FireWire" option for PC. Might make a difference if and/or how you plan to do ADR. Our dealer was not aware...

Re: Share some tips and tricks for mixing TV!

Care to elaborate on this?

-----

I just completed my first season of my first TV show (a 'reality' show w/ host & guests, non-studio, 2 camera shoots, 2 lav, 1 boom, 2 cam audio = 5 production...

Re: Why is it so hard to find a job in LA?

I keep hearing different versions regarding the mythology of LA. Someone the other day told me that sound jobs are plentiful and in demand. But he was from the picture side of things, and maybe he...

Re: Sound Design

I'll second the MetaSynth suggestion. I've gotten sounds out of that software that are absolutely amazing. Stay away from Koblo. Is that even still around?

Within Pro Tools, I've been using...

Re: Help! Nightmare Scene/Dialog From Hell

This is why I mentioned the importance of a good location sound recordist as the most important element in the process. This kind of got lost in all the tech talk. A lot of the fears mentioned in...

Re: Help! Nightmare Scene/Dialog From Hell

There's nothing wrong with audio going straight to the camera. In fact, thank goodness for XLR inputs on most broadcast-worthy DV cameras. The problem is what happens between voice and camera,...

Re: Elemental Audio bought be Roger Nichols

The problem here is that the same products have been jacked up in price simply because some business man (engineer, sorry) slapped his name on it.

I'm all for EAS (or whoever the company is now)...

Re: New L.A. Post movement??

I'm surprised Apple hasn't been mentioned more than twice. For me, the really interesting app to keep an eye on is Soundtrack Pro. It has nothing to do with the platform, speed, features, or anything...

Re: New L.A. Post movement??

1. If this fellow worked on "The New World" — one of the most evocative and creatively executed sound editing jobs I've seen/heard in recent years — he has my respect.
2. I've never used Nuendo, but...

Re: Distortion in transfer. Systems calibration?

It's definitely waveform distortion (look+sound). I doubt it was a digitization issue because things are fine in Vegas and FCP. I actually looked at a similar clip in Vegas that I had in PT and it...

Re: Distortion in transfer. Systems calibration?

Hmm... I'll try "ignore clip-based gain" in a test OMF and see if that helps. Thanks.

I'm not at work right now but I'm also wondering if could be that the editing systems are calibrated to -20...

Distortion in transfer. Systems calibration?

Hello all,

We have a situation where waveforms in our editing systems (FCP and Vegas) are distortion-free, but once the OMF is imported into Pro Tools, there is distortion (clipping). Because...

Re: How to best mix audio of an indie film?

Right, unfortunately. This is why I put that word "good" in capital letters. Incidentally, this is also why I think it's better that students study audio at a university (as opposed to a trade...

Re: How to best mix audio of an indie film?

I teach advanced audio for video at a university part-time and work as an editor part-time. I agree with what everyone has said here over the past several posts (and very interesting reads, btw).

Re: Some Love For Digidesign III EQ Plugin

OK, OK, OK!

To be honest, I didn't even get an actual price on it. All I knew was that there would be some unspecified charge to update it. I was imagining $150 or some kind of Waves type...

Re: Some Love For Digidesign III EQ Plugin

It's my first EQ as well these days, and resides in all my templates. We were using the Sony Oxford before, but when we went to upgrade to OS 10.4 and PT 7, Sony wanted to charge for the update. So...

Re: meter plugins suited for broadcast?

We just got the Inspector XL two days ago and so far so good. No noticable lagging at all, and the all-in-one metering, stereo imaging, and spectrum analysis window is great for general metering.

Re: FCP export to Protools

True. But also clear benefits, namely handles. Most editors don't know how to cut with audio in mind. You'll have far more frustrating situations without the OMF than with it.
