Have you tried your tests with a different (shorter) FireWire cable and at a different location (like someone else's house)?
Yes - both with different FireWire cables, and the Glitch as appeared...

Oh No - its still there!!!
Recording on 6.9 only a stereo track (nothing else at all , no effects just a plain stereo input via input 7&8 from a minidisc.

Tracks with no plugins have the glitches
Powerbook is running on AC power. It would seem ridiculous to have to run the PB off the battery - for one thing, its battery life has always been well...
