Cranesong Phoenix bug?

Hello all:

Yesterday I installed Cranesong Phoenix on my PT 5.1.3 Mix 3 system (OS 9.2.2, Gigabit Ethernet
Power Mac G4). Like many who have tried it, I'm impressed by its sound and efficiency....

Re: Uncompressed mixes to mastering engineer?

I think most mastering engineers make that request to counteract the lack of expertise among many engineers in applying mix buss compression appropriately. You're right, the engineer or producer...

Re: T Racks

The soft clipping stage is the only component in T-racks that I find useful. It's good for getting mixes "loud" with less distortion than most look-ahead peak limiters, and it's cheap.

Re: Flanger is Audiosuite only?

You could always just create a flanger with a short delay plug-in. Try this:

Insert a short delay plug-in on the track. Set the mix ratio to 50%. Now set a very short delay time (I suggest less...

Re: Hi Hat Micing techniques!

The first thing you need to get good isolation on the snare track is a drummer who knows how to play well. I record so many bad drummers, who smash away at their high hat and cymbals, but hit the...

Re: EQ before compression, or Compression before E

Not sure exactly what you mean by that. I do mean "content," not amplitude or volume. For example, the frequency content of a flute would not tend to produce these phenomena. The frequency content...

Re: Drum Microphones

If you're comparing the mics using two different kick drums, it might account for the deficiencies you're noticing.

There's a ton of variation in terms of how different kicks can sound, as well as...

Re: Timecode/SYNC IO Problems

Just curious - what level did you record the SMPTE on the 2" tape? If recorded at 0, it can be too distorted to be properly read. I usually stripe SMPTE at -10 to be safe.

Also, the phenomenon...

Re: EQ before compression, or Compression before E

The frequency content of a signal being processed can affect the behavior of a compressor. When excessive bass feeds a compressor, a little-known fact is that it can actually lead to harmonic...

Re: Waves SSL oh my god (Not just another waves post)

I must say I'm a little surprised at the response these have gotten. I've spent almost two decades using SSL consoles (G and E series primarily), and in my experience the EQ has always been a...

This isn\'t possible, is it?

I have a PT 5.3.1 HD3 system currently running on a 933 MHz Quicksilver. I'll be upgrading this system to PT7 soon, by moving the hardware over to a new single or dual processor G5. I was wondering...

Word!

Or have it be able to switch with a simple keyboard shortcut, like Reason does.

Dammit, how obvious does it have to be for someone to rescue Vision? What a tragedy. Vision, you really...

Re: Mastering Problem with L2 or Mixing Problem?

The distortion you're hearing is intrinsic to agressive limiting. There are a couple of things you can do to help:

1. Filter out extreme low bass using a high-pass filter somewhere in the...

Re: Who Else Thinks PT Midi is UNBEARABLE? Here\'s Why.

I remember long, long ago a very nice way to get the best of both worlds. I would run Pro Tools and Vision simultaneously, syncing the programs through the IAC bus. That way, Vision could handle my...

Re: Maxim limiter question

Set the output ceiling to -0.1. Maxim will allow signals to reach full scale.

Re: A good piano for Mach 5?

For starters, what I'm looking for is something with enough multisamples to not sound fake. The Bosendorfer that comes with Mach 5 is pretty bad to my ears. I installed a freeware version of the...

Re: IR-1 as an Equalizer

I don't have Q-Clone, but I can tell you that taking IRs of equalizers works very well. The only problem is that the IR behaves like a static snapshot of the settings on the EQ when the IR was...

Re: MIDI sync question

Beat Clock isn't channel-specific (it's a system message), so it's unusual that your drum machine would request a specific channel for this. Check to make sure that you assign PT's beat clock to...

Re: Your work flow when fixing timing (BD or manual)?

I think that would proabably give you good results. BD is great for drums and bass, but I sometimes don't like using it on certain types of guitar parts.

Re: Non-Waves PLugs for HD1 on XP?

Filter Bank is great for sure, but they don't sound like every EQ ever made to me. I think their greatest strength is their CPU and Mix chip efficiency. They're one of my "staple" EQs, although I...

Not exactly sure what you mean by "beat maps," but if you mean tempo mapping a live performance, here's the way I usually do it:

First, I use the "seperate region" command (cmnd-E) on...

A good piano for Mach 5?

Hello All:

I'm desperately trying to find a really fantastic grand piano for Mach 5, running on PT5.1.3 MIX3, os9.2.2. Is there anything good out there?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Mixing long records

I would caution you against recording the entire project as one session. This is not safe. If the session goes corrupt, you risk losing everything (as opposed to one song). Also, in my experience...

Re: Disable input Monitoring

If I understand what you're asking, it's a very simple matter. Just turn the fader for the vocal track all the way down in PT. You could also assign to no output, or to different outputs than feed...
