Re: Atmos bug: phase weirdness with "size" parameter

I've done some thinking about this. I suspect the size actually feeds to peripheral channels by some type of decorrelation (perhaps a short allpass or FIR). You can hear the overall enlarged signal...

Re: Old man wrist/Pen?/Programable Mouse?

Everybody seems to be different when it comes to repetitive stress injuries. The slightest differences in motion, body structure, posture and so on can give similar symptoms with different causes. ...

Re: Avid CEO Jeff Rosica Announces His Retirement...

The timing is indeed "interesting". But let's take a minute to recognize Jeff for righting a foundering ship.

Re: Is anyone running at 192K

Sure. All depends on the size of the session. That's why I suggested you try to max out your current system at 48K and do the math to see if it will cover your needs.

Re: Is anyone running at 192K

There will be a huge difference if you're running a current MacBook. But before you even think about it, you'll need to take an inventory of the plugins you use and whether they've been updated to...

Re: Is anyone running at 192K

I used to run at 192K all the time. Only reason I still don't is because I sold off my location kit and now can only to 96K with my little Zoom.

Not quite sure what you mean by a lot of tracks and...

Re: Avid Link updated... PT 2023.9 on its way?

Wasn't my intention to confuse you, but a lot of companies delete installers more than a few versions earlier than current. From their point of view that's understandable. If a company fixed a bug...

Re: Avid Link updated... PT 2023.9 on its way?

It's always a good idea to keep as many installers as you can for whatever software you might be using. Of course there's the possibility a vendor may no longer provide older installers (as Avid is...

Re: Premium microphones for sale: Schoeps, Neumann, Samer

Sorry, but there's only the one. I used it in an M/S configuration with a Samar ribbon. Ideally you'd like to find a matched pair of the Schoeps, but quality control is pretty good there, so...

Re: Vision Pro - Pro Tools

It looks to me like this first one is a standalone product rather than a peripheral. None of the keynote presentation showed it interacting with anything outside of the device itself (other than...

Re: Avid Link - Lounges Not Working

I'm getting the problem here as well. Might have had it for a while, but I haven't used lounges in a few months. I'm getting it both on my Mac Studio (Monterey) and my MacBook Pro (Ventura). I can...

Re: I bought iZotope RX Post Production Suite 7. Now your opinion is needed.

I think you simply don't need Flex. If you have a short term license and let it go, you may well face reinstatement fees. Avid seems to rejigger their policies on this frequently. Flex is for those...

Re: I bought iZotope RX Post Production Suite 7. Now your opinion is needed.

You've got a list of modules in RX (on the menu at top). One of the utility modules (way down the list) is plug-in. Inside that module you can choose any of the available plugins in your system...

Re: I bought iZotope RX Post Production Suite 7. Now your opinion is needed.

You can actually run the plugins from inside RX10. But it's a less-than-ideal way to do it. You need the immediacy of a DAW to make adjustments quickly and tweak according to what you hear. The new...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

This should perhaps serve as a caution (or perhaps two). This is a whole new generation of processor and--just like when we moved seriously into the box--it may require a user be comfortable in...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Hey Brandon,
You still might want to take a look at Activity Monitor for a couple of reasons. For one thing, noise reduction can use a lot of memory. So you may be close to that limit. And it's...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

I haven't experienced that at all. I have an M1-Max in the laptop form and the M1-Ultimate in the Studio. The Max did everything my 16-core 2019 Mac Pro was doing and the Ultimate goes way past...

Re: Feature request : 7.1.4 bus

I know. We're just having fun.

Perhaps more on the music side, which is mainly where I am these days. There's a fear of objects, so I've know a few people who mix exclusively to the bed. Takes...

Re: Feature request : 7.1.4 bus

I more than understand the bed. And I understand and largely agree with Ceri's arguments regarding the bed. With the exception of reverb, I don't put anything at all there. The bed basically provides...

Re: Feature request : 7.1.4 bus

Yes, I've worked up a similar solution. I just "poach" the non-bed reverb signals into objects and leave the 7.1 part in the bed. It takes a while to get sub-busses set up but it works. The problem...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

I've had my Ultra for a week now and not heard a peep. Haven't had to push it hard yet (RX is my metric), but for basic mixing it's been really quiet. If you're hearing yours, then you should...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

They're probably going to have to work with developers to get a critical mass of plugins working in Native mode. And of course they have tons of their own plugins. It may be that they need a...

Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

You'll also get a much faster on-chip bus, which will let you get audio in and out of the chip faster.
