Re: Post house Mac -> PC

I just can't imagine the Dolby Atmos Production Suite won't be expected to be part of a standard editing setup for collaboration. Maybe I'm missing something.

Re: Post house Mac -> PC

While I happen to prefer windows, a huge amount of tomorrow's post is going to be Dolby Atmos and it is Mac-only so far.

Re: Maxim weird behaviour

The problem for the plug-in developers is that the majority of plug-ins sold are VST which means that most need to code AAX separately if they want to provide DSP support. There are frameworks...

Re: Maxim weird behaviour

Those old plug-ins had to be coded using assembly language which requires a great deal of both know-how and time.

Re: Windows 7 to windows 10

When I went from 8.1 to 10, I needed to reinstall some drivers.

Re: Audible distortion when trying to record above 96kHz

The reason the major labels archive to 192 is to preserve the tape bias signal that can be used to remove wow and flutter.

You don't want filters that allow flat response to 40 or 80k You want...

Re: Audible distortion when trying to record above 96kHz

The REAL science isn't out there at all. The fake science would have you believe that Nyquist's perfect 40 kHz. sampling with infinite slope/infinite length (latency) low-pass filters is readily...

Re: PT M-Powered and Windows 10 ?

Has anybody had more experience with this? A friend running M-Powered 8 wants to move from win 7 to win 10.

Re: Advise about near field monitors

The idea that a speaker can be too large for a room is utter nonsense.

Re: HDX/HD|IO latency greater than Apollo Twin Duo?

Buffers don't include the hardware latency so settings are somewhat meaningless when comparing platforms.

Re: Anyone else just about fed up with Avid?

The best analogy I can think of is that using Pro Tools is like using a 2" 24 track recorder used to be. If you needed to move your project to a different studio in order to record or mix, you were...

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

Are you certain that BMI pays both shares to writers who don't have or own a publishing company affiliation? That's something new from what I've always understood but I haven't looked into it for...

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

The protection being referred to in that article is simply copyright registration.

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

I guess what I am trying to say is that the reason why ASCAP has that requirement is historical. Because they are an organization controlled 50/50 by member writers and member publishers, they have...

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

That is why people incorporate and not why you need to create a publishing company to collect royalties using a PRO.

PROs are structured to handle all sizes of publishers. I'm not sure where you...

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

The industry has been structured that way since the beginning of ASCAP, the very first performance royalty collection agency. Writers wanted separate payment and publishers wanted a single collector....

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

The ASCAP board is half songwriters and half publishers. The BMI board is all broadcast executives.

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

Of course it's not a requirement but you are throwing away half of your performance royalties if you don't. It doesn't cost anything to set up a publishing company and no business license is required.

Re: Why does ASCAP require you to re-register copyright to a vanity publshing compan

The entire industry has always been structured for separate music publishers. Songwriters ought to be informed they need to set up a publishing company before they register their copyrights.

Re: Is Publishing Admin. worth it?

Producers' royalties have always been deducted from artists' royalties unless the producer was to pay the artist royalty. Most contracts call for the entity paying the royalty to pay the contract...

Re: Is Publishing Admin. worth it?

The recent changes to the copyright act involve setting up a database that will co-ordinate all rights information. I understand that isn't in place yet but should be soon. Your PRO will have...

Re: Is Publishing Admin. worth it?

The first person I heard it from was the publishing manager at Motown and it was confirmed by numerous other people I met over the years. It is about all to change but it remains to be seen what that...
