After having explained and discussed all this information, how is this going to change/influence...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

I totally agree. Lavry doesn't address any sort of plugin signal processing while inside the digital domain. But that isn't the scope of his article to do so. He is just talking about converters....

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

and, if you don't believe me, try it. YOu can do it in protools.

Create two mono aux tracks in a 96KHz pt session. mute both tracks. Set them both to 20KHz. Set the first one to sine wave...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

Also, take a look at your speaker's actual response. :D Most professional speakers below $1000 are lucky if they can even reproduce 20KHz 10dB down from the broadcasting signal's level, never mind...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

No... only sine wave. Like I said, in order to get a square wave (or any other type of wave for that matter) you need to add additional frequencies ABOVE the fundamental. This is the basis for...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

I don't think you should delete anything. It's valuable to others from a learning perspective. Only hearing "answers" and not the questions only works on jeopardy! :D

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

This distortion that you are talking about has NOTHING to do with sampling rate. I can see where you are getting confused because there is a "distortion" from sampling that gets filtered out with...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

You are not seeing the 30fps, you are seeing the motion blur on one frame. If the film was captured at 60Hz and then digital downconverted to 24Hz you wouldn't be able to tell. Or if the shutter...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

The sharper the transient the higher the pitch. After 18KHz~20KHz you can't hear it get any sharper. Try it in a sampler, you'll see what I mean.

The reason a sine wave turns into a square wave...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

This is absolutely a moot point because the quantization error you are referring to is ABOVE the nyquist frequency of the sampling rate you are going to. Therefore the low pass filter at Nyquist...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

But this is why the fluorescent lightbulb is an ANALOGY and not a direct comparison.

The sampling frequency ONLY effects the highest frequency being reproduced. So as soon as you hit play, you...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

In some ways you can can use the Film analogy. While sampling audio is not like recording film, you can make a comparison between a film camera's speed and a sampling rate. Why shoot at 30fps if...

I'm not trying to be mean here, but do you even read your own posts? You proved MY point in trying to disprove me and you didn't even realize it!?!?!?! Please, you don't fully understand the issue...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

All of the effects seen in the Infinitewave graphs are due to the filters used. they explain that in the FAQ and Help.

ABSOLUTELY NO PROGRAM EVER DIVIDES BY 2 TO DOWNSAMPLE. NONE. NOT GOING TO...

Re: 44.1 kHz vs. 48 kHz - why not use the higher?

Just want to go back and point out this is urban legend. It is simply not true. they are both equally as easy and error free.

What effects the sound of the conversion is not the actual...
