Re: Pro Tools won't shutdown

I had that problem and updating to the latest version of iLok License Manager solved it.

Re: Pro Tools does not use the entire CPU

It's also worth mentioning that I've been told that plug-in design plays a bigger role in spread than the DAW host design.

Re: Macintosh moving to ARM

It's worth mentioning that today most people expect to get much longer usage of a computer than we did a decade ago.

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

There is one big difference between Avid and other developers.

Avid's steadiest customers are teams of users as opposed to individuals. They use a wide variety of computers with different...

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

Loudness meters have a lot more computational overhead than others. I'm not sure it would make sense on every channel. The Avid Pro Limiter has a nice one.

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?

I'll never forget a Stanford Music Special Interest Group meeting where an Intel contractor slipped up and revealed that the Pentium CPU was actually RISC under the hood. SillyConMan Valley marketing...

Re: Dear Avid, I am an ultimate user but this 32 channel limit!

My impression is that HD (ultimate?) is being directed more toward video/motion picture post-production work while vanilla is aimed at music production.

Re: 17 min. Song with enough links to bring on R.S.I.

The stupidest marketing mistake ever made was not using a 12" digital disk. It showed that the suits didn't have a clue about what their customers actually did with an album.

Re: Anyone else just about fed up with Avid?

If you go back to the very beginning of the DUC, you'll see that the sky has been falling around here forever! Avid/Digi take great care with backwards/forwards compatibility because they understand...

Re: Pro Tools 2018 use with 192 I/O [solved]

I was told the only reason 192s aren't officially supported is that a chip they use is no longer available as a service part.

Re: HDX vs Native

Make sure you aren't comparing a 192 feeding balanced inputs to one feeding unbalanced inputs. Balanced sounds surprisingly better. I've also noticed that HDX plug-ins often sound better and use...

Re: How do you use an analog mixer with Protools?

You can feed reverb from the monitor mix because latency doesn't matter. Beware of reverb like old Lexicons that can shift the pitch and screw up people's intonation.

Re: How do you use an analog mixer with Protools?

One of the very best things you can do with an analog mixer is to send your headphone mix along with an analog split of the microphone to a small, even really cheap mixer. This totally eliminates the...

Re: All Possible Melodies Now in Public Domain

It's virtually impossible to write a melody that can't already be proven to be in the public domain! Arrangements are still subject to copyright.

Re: Post house Mac -> PC

I just can't imagine the Dolby Atmos Production Suite won't be expected to be part of a standard editing setup for collaboration. Maybe I'm missing something.

Re: Post house Mac -> PC

While I happen to prefer windows, a huge amount of tomorrow's post is going to be Dolby Atmos and it is Mac-only so far.

Re: Maxim weird behaviour

The problem for the plug-in developers is that the majority of plug-ins sold are VST which means that most need to code AAX separately if they want to provide DSP support. There are frameworks...

Re: Maxim weird behaviour

Those old plug-ins had to be coded using assembly language which requires a great deal of both know-how and time.
