I do not know what you mean by checking the voltage. How do I do this and what am I looking for? What manual are you saying to look at . . . the motherboard or the processor?

I was wondering if a Promise Controller would help overall performance of a Gigabyte GA-7DX+ motherboard and two 7200rpm ATA 100 drives?
