Noob question regarding exporting sessions

I've got a session with a single track, and I'm trying to find out how to export it into a format that can be played in windows media player or itunes. How do I do that?

Disabling onboard sound....necessary?

I heard/read somewhere (cant remember) that you need to turn off any sound cards or on-board sound when running pt. Is that true?
