Dan,you are right about it but Rob is using a MBP _the non xpress card generation_
So probably he can use a FW HDD instead rather than a USB one.

I am using THIS (http://www.addonics.com/products/io/aau2esa.asp)
with external enclosures,i assume that it will work with the flash one

Hi Rob
I bought 3 years ago one of These (http://www.digitaltrendz.com/kanguru-firewire-flash.htm)
I used as a portable/emergency boot drive,due to size limit did not try it with PT,but i can check...
