The Loundness Wars (IEEE article)...

http://spectrum.ieee.org/aug07/5429

Good article on the history of what we refer to as "The Loudness War" and what it might mean for the future of music.

Re: Analogue 24 track tape transfer

Or...even simpler

Just make the two passes

highlight the 2nd pass (last 8) tracks and use the nudge keys to 'eyeball (or is that earball?) all of the 2nd pass tracks to close enough sync with...

Re: BEFORE I BUY THIS COMPUTER CAN SOME TELL WILL IT WORK WI

Having just exchanged a motherboard with that ATI chipset, I can tell you it was nothing but trouble. Digidesign themselves will tell you it won't work.

Re: Having hard time mixing !

Aside from a rather lousy lead singer and it being a low quality mp3 file, it's really not all that bad of a mix.

You could move the piano and rhythm electric guitar out of the center (pan one a...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Yeah, I would tend to agree with you. I've never been a fan of T-Rack's compressor plugin.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Greg and Doug:

Sorry, haven't visited the forum in a few days. I'll try to download the new version(s) and give'em a listen tonight.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Cheap place to put your mp3's if you want everyone to hear them.

Greg,

Steak Dinner Date is a great fun song and the mix is wonderful. Obscenely overcompressed,...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

You shouldn't really ever hear it. If you do, then you've gone too far and you end up with a 'pumping mix'. The whole idea with compression is to reduce the dynamic range in something and even out...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

He was referring to my comment about the kick drum being 'out of balance'. e.g. it sticks out in the mix a little too much. Everything should have it's own place in the mix, but nothing should...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Doug,

Nice song and great instrumentation on it. I think the kick is a little out of balance volumewise with everything else. The only other problem I hear at all is overcompression. I can hear...

Re: my latest

Joz - Very nice song. Good production. Compressed/limited too much, but aside from that it sounds awesome.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy,

Thumbs up for "Lovers" Very well done and the vocalist has a wonderful voice. Perfect for that song too.

I thought the drums sounded just a tad thin, myself. Someone else commented on...

Re: ADAT question

Syncing to the ADAT clock is not going to hurt anything.

The alternative is to set up the ADAT to use an external clock via the optical.

I've used ADAT as a 'converter' many times. Just set...

Re: track that leads into another

Sonic Foundry did discontinue CD Architect. When Sony bought them out, they brought it back.

Re: PTLE On Dual CPU System

ProTools (or at least the DAE, which is like it's own little operating system) is one big huge honkin monolithic thread the last time I looked.

So, basically PT can have one cpu all to itself...

Re: 64 Bit OS Compatibility?

And for a software engineer you seem to know very little about how the hardware works and how you can take advantage of it. You can deal with more data in one clock cycle on 64 bit hardware than you...

Re: 64 Bit OS Compatibility?

That is simply NOT true.

A 64 bit processor running a 64 bit OS and 64 bit applications can do far more in less time than a 32 bit processor with 32 bit OS/apps.

The main benefit will be that...

Re: Command 8 vs. Mackie HUI

How so?.... I recently got to play with a C|8 in a studio that had just gotten theirs. There wasn't much I couldn't control from it.

The C|8 rocks btw....well worth the money.

Re: Command|8 or Mackie Control Universal?

Again, I'm not really interested at all in the Tascam product. Yeah, it'd be nice to get more than 8 faders for the $1000-1200 I'm already going to be spending, but I've had such bad experiences...

Re: Command|8 or Mackie Control Universal?

I've thought about the Tascam product. I just don't care for the design at all. Nor do I really want to purchase a studio item off of eBay. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Command|8 or Mackie Control Universal?

One of the artists I produce is going to get a 002R in the very near future. He may also have enough money to get a control surface.

I've never used either, so I need some advice.

I know the...

Re: ProTools doesn\'t always play with the spacebar
