Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

And make sure they are not the decapitated ones for 2008/2009 MacBook Pro. For 2010 and newer you want the ones that still have the lid on the top. If you look down at the top of the processor, itís...

Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

I would recommend getting a whole kit on EBay. It comes with a tool and thermal grease, etc.

I think mine are the X5690.

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

It'll work, but I think it seems like a waste of effort to convert from MADI to Dante. If you already have 64 MADI ch from the MTRX and 64 ch of MADI from an Avid MADI- why convert to Dante at all? ...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

...And if you go the Dante route, you also need an approved network switch to connect the Dante devices.

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

No, thats all wrong. Choose between doing MADI or Dante. In this drawing, you are using a Mac for Atmos Mastering with Dante. There would be no point to having MADI at all. Use MADI if you buy a PC...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Thanks for chiming in with these details. I didn't know the monitor card could have different tunings assigned to different speaker setups. I just installed the Atmos Mastering hardware on my...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

The QSC is basically a Linux-based box that comes as a complete blank slate that can pretty much route anywhere and do anything you want. You'll have to either hire someone to program it (I have a...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Ouch. I didn't know the speaker tuning card was $2200. And at $2999, there are better options over the Intonato. The QSC Q-Sys 110f is one of them. So he could do an HD I/O and run analog into...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Don't get the Nudge panner. I think that connects with ethernet and not might be proprietary. Besides, the housing is made to drop into the Nudge console. The AXOS is right one. Or the older...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

A couple thoughts-

1. Spaner is very cool, but personally I enjoy panning with a touch screen about as much as paying with a mouse. Also, having to use the Spanner plugin instead of the PT...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Yep, there it is. Ok, so definitely not the best option IMO. If you are using the Production Suite, just use the send and return AAX plugins. They also make HDX versions. So that's cool, too.

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Hmm, odd. I didn't;'t hear that it couldn't be used for both at the same time. Where did that quote come from?

If you are in Pro Tools, I wouldn't use the Audio Bridge at all. Not if you are...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Ah, so Iím guessing the PT card isnít an option for outputting from the Renderer. Hmm. Maybe in this scenario, he could also install a MADI or Dante card and use that to route the 22 outputs back...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

I forgot about the new Dolby Audio Bridge. Does that remove the need for send and return plugins to communicate with the Production Suite Renderer?

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Actually, I said he should get a second card. The Production Suite uses a ton of additional aux tracks. Youíll run out of voices pretty quick. And if you are teaching film mixing, youíll probably...

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

Re: What do I need to monitor in Dolby Atmos with my setup?

The new version doesnít change that they stil probably need something to control those 22 speaker channels. The MYRX is a godsend for routing flexibility. I love mine. But I donít know how it...

Re: New -27 LKFS Spec

Netflix Atmos spec v1.8 said -24 LKFS and didnít mention which deliverable stems to measure it with. They only said use the 7.1 rerender for peaks.

The new v1.9 Atmos spec also changes it to -27...

Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

Yes, true. I cant argue with that at all. Iím still running 12.12.6, but Iíve seen the last few releases of PT run extremely well with versions versions of 10.13. If I were setting up a new system...

Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

Yes, you can use pretty much anything for video cards, but go with one that says it was made for Mac. Itíll save you some headache later. FYI, the Nvidia GeForce 1080 and 1070 models have been...

Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

Yes, OWC makes a PCI card that you can plug an SSD drive into and get the drive's full SATA III speeds. The down side is that you are kind of 'wasting' a PCI slot because its capable of so much...

Re: Worth replacing 2008 Mac Pro for upgraded 2010 Mac Pro?

Nothing better than the most recent 2018 builds of Pro Tools. If you spend money on an upgrade or a new copy, I would only recommend getting PT 12 or 2018. Also load MacOS 10.13 on your new machine....
