Sometimes DMA mode on your drive reverts to PIO, making the disk too slow for Pro Tools... or much else. Try this problem solver.

I did do all of those steps. Even used the DigiNuke app to completely wipe out PT before reinstalling.

Panned hard right or left, one channel registers at -18dB. With two tracks panned hard right or left, the level registers as -12dB... 6dB louder.

No, I meant the magic ID thing. I haven't run any utilities on the drive except for ScanDisk, which didn't find anything. I'm thinking I'll reformat it and see if that helps.

That's what I've been doing, but it's still a drag. And I still don't have a clue why this would happen. Any ideas about that?

I have an external firewire drive formatted with FAT32. I formatted it this way because it was the only way I could move my sessions back and forth between my PC...

For what it's worth (probably very little) the Western Digitals with the 8 MB cache are the fastest IDE drives you can get. I bought 3 of the 100 GB models... Fry's sells them for around 170, then...

On my digital boards, I can do several mixes of a song, and save each to their own memory location, and recall any of them at will. Not as seperate "files", but within the single song file.

Sorry, sorry! I'm not enough of a geek. It took me five minutes to figure out that is the logo for firewire. The little mixer thing looks cool too. But this is just an unfair tease.
