Clicking and Popping during recording and playback

Hey all,

Never had this problem before this week..

When I'm recording, I'll get popping on the recorded track that will not go way. I will also get popping on playback which is random..

Ok..

Let's put this to bed.

The cards are in PCI-X format.. but you do not need the enhanced slots to use them. By design, most PCI-X cards ARE backwards compatible with PCI, as are Digidesign...

Ok guys.. here's what I have:

Windows 7 64-bit
Pro Tools HD3 9
96 I/O + 8 Channels ADAT

I need like.. 20 channels for a show coming up to record.. and I only have 16.. Short of buying another...

I've always been against mixing and mastering using the same engineer.. but many of us don't have the resources to send tracks out.

It takes a very trained and disciplined ear to be able to master...

I bounce to individual R/L mono files and import into separate tracks in a new session.

I use iZotope Ozone 4 to master.. hands down the best program I've every used for mastering and not too...

Never had an issue with RAID... I'm using a two HDD RAID-0 for my boot drive, a two HDD RAID-0 for my application drive (protools install folder, plugins, etc), and a four HDD RAID-10 for my storage...

2GB/s won't be possible if you are running this on a RAID controller built into your motherboard.. the bandwidth to support that just isn't there.

That's why I always suggest a dedicated true...

There are no offline drivers. Just install your cards, run the ProTools9 Windows FULL Installer and you will be good to go..

For anyone buying the X6.. don't bother getting the fastest one.. I have mine overclocked to 3.81GHZ easy and I've seen them as high as 4.5GHZ online..

The AM3 board I found supports 3 PCI slots and 16GB of ram.. not to mention the X6 from AMD.. It was the ONLY.. and I repeat.. ONLY board I found with three consecutive PCI slots..

Where you see the best gains on SSD is in a RAID.. a true RAID.. not the 'hardware' RAID that comes on your standard motherboard today. We use SSD's for the host drives off of Dell and Adaptec RAID...

I've purchased probably 50-100 Seagate drives over the past few years for minor consulting gigs. I'd say 3 have failed since then. Seagate has the highest quality, and one of the best warranties out...

PC Power & Cooling make a fanless PSU.. very high quality and 700W.

Also.. Zalman makes great CPU coolers as well.

My suggestion is also enabling fan control, you can even buy a fan controller...
