Re: Should we all just Hackintosh while we can?

And... why would that be? The question is rhetorical and doesn't warrant nor is looking for an answer, so I'll just post my opinion. I am in the middle of demos of several packages on Apple...

Re: It was 20 years ago today...

Thanks,

Fortunately nothing I am re-opening is very complicated and not sure chasing down old plugins is the way to go. The old system works and I can cull out what I want as individual tracks...

Re: It was 20 years ago today...

Having come from building workstations professionally going back to the NuBus days, I understand your perspective all too well. I used the phrase "time machine" for this reason. Back then, as in...

Re: It was 20 years ago today...

Um, no and no regrets on getting the Mini. This was always a video system first. It handles that with aplomb.

I've been really careful as I've no intention of bashing PT. I've too much respect...

Re: It was 20 years ago today...

Probably should have specified M1 Mac Mini. Yes I got it maxed out but that only means 16gigs. Handles all the 4k my Sony cameras can dish out. Runs the entire Adobe suite amazingly well under...

Re: It was 20 years ago today...

Probably because I type slow and as a rule, need to check grammar and spelling a lot.

I worked a lot with Pro Tools when I was the operations engineer in a large corporate studio. That was the...

Thanks,

I had attempted a reply but one of the things that hasn't changed is how this forum tends to log you out while you are in the middle of typing a response. Perhaps I'll try again later.

It was 20 years ago today...

That I joined this forum after getting involved in the second home recording revolution when everything went digital. The first time was 40 years ago when analog became affordable for home use.

Re: Best forum or resource for high end, PT compatible audio and video computer?

I'm kind of in the same spot as you other than audio is secondary to video for me. Also a couple years from retirement. Preparing hobbies to keep me busy. Photography, video and getting back into my...

Re: Pro Tools First Creativity Pack download problem

I recently picked up an M1 Mac and installed Pro Tools First to test it out. I was having the same message pop up. I've been away from the Mac platform for a lot of years and the new OS and chip...

Re: 6.4 It's up and working on Digi 001!

The system has been working amazingly great considering the age. I am still waiting for the memory I ordered but did swap out the CPU for a slightly faster one.

For now I've decided to leave it...

Re: Looking to upgrade my DIGI 001 PC

NewEgg still sells DDR memory. You could pick up a couple of 1 gig sticks for cheap. I only found one 1 Gig stick so I ordered some today.

Re: Looking to upgrade my DIGI 001 PC

Hi Tony

I just posted the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Oddly enough my solution was to re-purpose an old motherboard I had (A7V8X-X) from a Pentium system that was running at 600Mhz. For me...

Re: 6.4 It's up and working on Digi 001!

I haven't decided on upgrading the OS yet. Still need to do more research. I read the installation note and figured I would start with automatic updates off and see if it worked first. It was only...

6.4 It's up and working on Digi 001!

I finally updated both computer and ProTools. I had been running 5.4 on an old 800Mhz pentium with 98SE. The motherboard I had didn't support the higher bus speed of the CPU so it was throttled...

Re: I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

Re: I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

At this point I wish I was able to just upgrade the entire system. Unfortunately without a job, the best I can afford right now is a motherboard and the 6.4 upgrade. I have everything else. Option...

Re: I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

Took a look at the P5Q on the Asus site. From what I can tell and what is available, it looks like the P5Q SE Plus is probably the best choice.

Any one have any thoughts about the different...

Re: I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

Looks like I might not be out of luck. I called Digi yesterday to inquire if I could purchase a license for 6.4. They said they needed to inquire and took my email address. I got an email today...

Re: I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

It looks like the upgrade is no longer available on the Digi Store site. Guess I'm SOL.

Perhaps I'll just get the software for my MAudio card in my other PC when windows 7 support comes along.

I'd like to upgrade my 001 PC

I have an older 001 rig that is still running protools 5 (believe it or not). It has been stable and done what I needed.

Here is the thing. With the dawn of Windows 7 I figure its now or never...

Thanks for the link. I started looking at that thread and will likely go with the P5B if that is the current best option.

I recently built a new gaming platform for my son using the EVGA Nforce...
